The popular blood pressure medication Azor has been linked with a number of serious Azor side effects, including gastrointestinal issues. Some Azor users have begun to come forward, filing lawsuits over the Azor side effects they have experienced.
Blood pressure medications like Azor are widely used. In fact, millions of people are written prescriptions for these hypertension drugs every year. Unfortunately, this widespread use means that any serious Azor side effects could themselves be extremely widespread.
Background of Azor
Azor (a combination of olmesartan and amlopidine) is a blood pressure medication manufactured by Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. Azor and similar blood pressure drugs, including Benicar and Tribenzor, are used to treat hypertension.
Researchers at the Mayo Clinic have found a significant link between Azor and chronic diarrhea, as well as other Azor side effects, and published their findings in 2012. Patients have reported a number of Azor side effects, including:
- Sprue-like enteropathy
- Colitis
- Kidney failure
- Malnutrition
- Dehydration
- Diarrhea
- Chronic diarrhea
- Vomiting/Nausea
- Abdominal pain
The FDA responded to these findings, sending out a warning to the public in 2013 about the risk of suffering from gastrointestinal Azor side effects like these.
Patients were warned about the risk of sprue-like enteropathy for patients taking Azor, as well as the fact that Azor side effects like these can take from months to years to develop after beginning to take the drug.
Daiichi Sankyo then changed the drug’s label to reflect this information, but the warning came too late for many patients who had already suffered serious Azor side effects.
A growing number of Azor patients are coming forward with similar allegations about Azor side effects, alleging that Daiichi Sankyo either knew or should have known about the risk of serious Azor side effects linked with their drug.
However, lawsuits claim that the pharmaceutical company failed to adequately warn patients and the medical community about these risks.
Patients Sue over Azor Side Effects
Patients are becoming increasingly aware of the risk of serious Azor side effects, and so more and more injured patients are coming forward to file lawsuits against Azor’s manufacturer, Daiichi Sankyo.
So far, the pharmaceutical company has been hit with over a thousand lawsuits over Azor side effects and those of other olmesartan-based medications, including chronic diarrhea, stomach pain, and other gastrointestinal issues.
Azor lawsuits allege that once the manufacturers became aware of the risk, they continued to market the drug as safe and effective in ways that were potentially misleading to consumers.
Given adequate warning about the possibility of these side effects, the plaintiffs allege, they would have chosen a safer alternative and avoided these Azor side effects entirely.
If you or someone you love has suffered from Benicar adverse effects, you may be able to file an Azor side effects lawsuit.
While filing a claim cannot take away the pain and suffering of Azor side effects, it can help to compensate for any financial expenses incurred through medical bills or even lost wages.
