LensCrafters has agreed to a $39 million settlement in a class action lawsuit that claimed the company engaged in deceptive advertising by making certain statements regarding its AccuFit Digital System that were allegedly false or misleading.

The settlement class is made up of U.S. residents who, from Sept. 5, 2013, to Sept. 20, 2023, purchased prescription eyeglasses in the United States from LensCrafters after being fitted with AccuFit.

The plaintiff claims the defendant violated certain laws by making material misrepresentations about its AccuFit system, claiming that it was “five times more precise” than traditional methods, measuring “down to a tenth of a millimeter” despite never updating its manufacturing process to manufacture glasses to a 0.1mm specification.

EssilorLuxottica designs and manufactures ophthalmic lenses, frames and sunglasses. They own a large portfolio of eyeglass brands, including LensCrafters, an international retailer of prescription eyewear and prescription sunglasses with independent optometrists hosted at most stores.

The company denies any accusations of wrongdoing but has agreed to the settlement to resolve the claims.

Every class member who submits a valid claim will be entitled to a payment from the net settlement fund.

Class members will have the opportunity to receive a maximum of $50 for each pair of prescription eyeglasses they purchased from LensCrafters during the class period. This amount is subject to adjustment on a pro rata basis if the total claims surpass the available funds.

The deadline to opt out of the LensCrafters settlement is Feb. 5, 2024, and the deadline to object is Jan. 29, 2024.

A final fairness hearing in the LensCrafters AccuFit class action lawsuit settlement will take place Feb. 26, 2024.

Claim forms must be submitted no later than 30 days after the entry of the court’s final approval order.

  1. Sylvia says:

Don’t no if I have papers to send in but I did purchase eye glasses and had my exam at lens crafters in those years.

  2. Thomas V Ropelewski says:

Who in the world has proof of purchase back from 2013 let alone lens crafters doesn’t even carry documents over a year… After seeing the doctor and getting your glasses once the warranty is expired, it seems like they lose the paperwork to begin with anyhow and then you got to start the process all over again. But seriously who has proof of purchase back from 2013?????

    1. Mary Ann Capitan says:

  6. Tonya Clemons says:

I’ve gotten several pairs of glasses for myself, both my kids have gotten glasses a couple of times, and my husband as well a few pair during that period.

  7. Dennis Nisbet says:

People that work at stores like LensCrafters tend to be creative in presenting the value of the products they represent.
I believe that much of the so-
called misrepresentation of this product could have easily been exaggerated and overstated by the employees. If the company encouraged this in any way, then the settlement amount is much less than it should be.
In my case, I had already experienced the ineptitude of another company when they provided me with glasses that did not solve the issues I was experiencing.
They did not have the expertise nor did they offer what my vision issues required.
For me, even if the measurement tool provided by LensCrafters wasn’t being properly supported by the manufacturer, it was more reliable than the ruler that has been used for years.
Regardless, LensCrafters likely deserves a firm “slap on the hand” for not fixing their end of the process and not making sure that their stores were properly representing the tool for what is was.

    1. Lesley Kersten says:

I payed way more than 50.00
My husband also got glasses from Lens Crafters for many years

  9. Kathryne says:

Does this include minors that had eye wear purchased for them by parent? What if claimant can’t remember exact dates of purchase and don’t have the receipts for those past purchases? They just loose out? $50 doesn’t cover the exam costs, the eye wear or the specialized eye mapping cost they charge. People should get more than $50.

    1. MzMika says:

I totally agree! I paid way more than $50.

  10. Arletha Hunter says:
