Mentor Worldwide, Coloplast Hit with New Vaginal Mesh Lawsuit
By John Curran
A Michigan woman says that she has suffered significant injuries as a result of bladder sling/vaginal mesh complications, according to a lawsuit filed directly into multidistrict litigation in U.S. District Court in West Virginia.
Plaintiff Kristina Stone’s vaginal mesh lawsuit notes that the woman underwent two separate procedures, once in 2007 and once in 2008, although there is only one named product in the complaint. According to the lawsuit, she received the Aris-Transobturator Sling System manufactured and marketed by Mentor Worldwide and Coloplast.
Since she used a simplified complaint form to speed up the litigation process, Stone’s specific injuries are not noted in the lawsuit. However, many women who have suffered from vaginal mesh complications allege that the devices cause inflammation, organ perforation and other problems. A significant number of women have reported they are still dealing with stress urinary incontinence, the condition the devices are designed to treat.
A common claim in a vaginal mesh lawsuit like that filed by Stone is that the materials that medical device makers like Coloplast used were biologically incompatible, causing an allergic reaction that led to the inflammation noted above. Due to the strength of the synthetic polypropylene used, it can also erode the vaginal wall. Further, women who want the device removed in a revision procedure may require multiple surgeries to repair any damage due to its construction.
Counts against the medical device makers include negligence, strict liability, and breaches of various warranties among others.
The bladder sling implant failure lawsuit is Kristina Stone v. Mentor Worldwide LLC, et al., Case No. 13-cv-27615, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of West Virginia.

Hi
I also had an Aris bladder sling that was recently removed that was causing me problems. I have been trying to find an attorney that will include me in a class action. I am not sure how to pursue this. I saw where your firm had one against this company, I did not see the outcome however. Any information or direction is greatly appreciated? Thank you, Sandy
