YoPlus Yogurt class action settlementPayments from the YoPlus yogurt class action lawsuit settlement were distributed last Friday, starting September 13, according to the Settlement Administrator. Class Members who submitted valid Claim Forms are reporting to Top Class Actions that they’ve received an average award of $52 from the class action settlement.

The YoPlus yogurt settlement received final approval on June 17, 2013, from U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney, who called it “fair” and “thoroughly negotiated.” The deal resolves claims that General Mills Inc. and Yoplait USA Inc. falsely advertised that their YoPlus probiotic yogurt products provide digestive health benefits that regular yogurt does not provide.

The defendants stand by their marketing claims but agreed to compensate consumers through an $8.5 million class action lawsuit settlement fund to resolve the litigation.

Consumers who purchased YoPlus yogurt between July 26, 2007, and July 5, 2012, were allowed to claim $4 for each unit of YoPlus yogurt they purchased. No Proof of Purchase was necessary if they purchased 13 units or less. Those who were claiming more than 13 units had to provide proof, however.

The deadline to submit a Claim Form was August 16, 2013.
