An Alabama cancer patient has alleged in a new Taxotere lawsuit that her exposure to the drug during chemotherapy treatment has caused her to suffer from permanent hair loss.
The plaintiff, Tawni B., says she began taking Taxotere as part of her chemotherapy treatment in December 2014 and continued this usage until February 2015. As is the case with many cancer patients, Tawni suffered from hair loss during her chemotherapy. However, months and then years after her cancer treatment was over, Tawni says her hair still had not grown back.
In her Taxotere lawsuit, Tawni claims that she was not adequately warned about the risk of permanent hair loss from Taxotere. The lawsuit alleges that the side effects of taking this drug include permanent alopecia (that is, hair loss), along with economic damage, psychological counseling and therapy expenses, as well as severe emotional distress.
Tawni filed her Taxotere lawsuit on Sept. 24, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The Taxotere lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including failure to warn, negligence, design and manufacturing defects, and several others.
Tawni is not the first cancer patient to file a Taxotere lawsuit after suffering from permanent hair loss after chemotherapy. Indeed, more and more are coming forward with their own stories of side effects caused by exposure to Taxotere. If you or a loved one has suffered from permanent hair loss side effects after taking Taxotere, you may be able to file litigation and pursue compensation.
Background of Taxotere
Taxotere (generic name docetaxel) is a chemotherapy drug used to treat breast cancer.
Taxotere is manufactured by Sanofi Aventis and was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) back in 1996. Since then, it has grown ever more popular and has become one of the most widely used chemotherapy drugs today. Unfortunately, despite its popularity, Taxotere is also becoming increasingly tied to permanent alopecia side effects.
Taxotere Hair Loss Side Effects
Hair loss, also known as alopecia, is, of course, the most recognizable of chemotherapy side effects. Cancer patients go into treatment expecting and accepting the risk of hair loss. But they also generally expect that, after treatment is over, their hair will grow back.
However, more and more patients treated with Taxotere and other docetaxel drugs are reporting that their alopecia becomes permanent, and they are left unable to grow their hair back. In many cases, patients are left with eyebrow, eyelash, and head hair loss, able to grow their hair back only in clumps and patches or not at all.
Can You File a Taxotere Lawsuit?
A growing number of cancer patients are turning to litigation after suffering from alopecia side effects from Taxotere. If you or a loved one has suffered from hair loss complications after taking Taxotere or another docetaxel medication during chemotherapy, you may be able to file a Taxotere lawsuit and gain some kind of compensation.
While filing a Taxotere lawsuit cannot undo the side effects caused by docetaxel medication, it can help to alleviate the financial expenses incurred by cancer treatment bills and lost wages.
The Taxotere Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-08850-JTM-MBN, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
