A Texas woman recently filed a lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals alleging her late husband’s death was caused by a fatal Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage side effect.

The plaintiff, Patricia R., filed her lawsuit on behalf of her late husband, Jimmie R., who died after suffering from Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage.

According to the lawsuit, Jimmie began taking Xarelto in April 2015 and continued for just over a year until he suffered a Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage on June 2, 2016. Ultimately, Jimmie’s Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage led to his death less than a week later on June 7, 2016.

According to the lawsuit, Janssen failed to adequately warn Jimmie about the risk of Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage and other major complications linked with the medication. Instead, the lawsuit claims, Janssen chose to actively promote Xarelto as safe and effective, while concealing the major risks associated with the drug.

The lawsuit claims that Janssen’s actions show “flagrant, willful, and depraved indifference to the health, safety, and welfare.” Ultimately, this led to Jimmie’s injuries and subsequent death, the lawsuit claims.

Patricia filed her Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage on June 6, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including strict liability, manufacturing defect, design defect, failure to warn, negligence, breach of express and implied warranties, fraud, and wrongful death, among several others.

Background of Xarelto

Xarelto (also known by its generic name, rivaroxaban) is a relatively new blood-thinning drug. Xarelto is manufactured and sold by Janssen Pharmaceuticals, a prominent subsidiary of pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson. Since it was first introduced to the market, Xarelto has become increasingly popular.

Xarelto is prescribed to treat blood clots and conditions related to clotting. Blood clots can be very dangerous, and in some cases can be fatal, which makes the use of new blood thinner drugs like Xarelto so widespread.

However, a growing number of lawsuits are being filed over complications allegedly stemming from the medication, including Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage. Unfortunately, some have even had to file a Xarelto wrongful death lawsuit after the death of a loved one.

According to such lawsuits, Janssen knew about the dangerous side effects linked with Xarelto, including Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage and excessive bleeding problems, yet failed to adequately warn both consumers and the medical community, placing patients at serious risk.

Filing a Xarelto Wrongful Death Lawsuit

Filing a Xarelto wrongful death lawsuit cannot bring a loved one back to life. However, a Xarelto lawsuit can at least help to compensate for the financial expenses often incurred by medical bills and lost wages.

If you or someone you love has experienced severe side effects like Xarelto intracranial hemorrhage or even died from their usage of Xarelto, you may be able to file a Xarelto lawsuit.

The Xarelto Intracranial Hemorrhage Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-05660-EEF-MBN, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
