Were You Overcharged for California Healthcare Services?Healthcare is already expensive, and some companies in California may be making it worse by using unfair medical billing practices for a slew of California healthcare services, overcharging their customers.

Consumers who are insured with PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations) may be paying medication co-pays that are more than ten times what customers would pay for the medication without any insurance at all. California healthcare providers may also overcharge insured patients for services like lab work, urinalysis, blood work, MRIs, CT scans, genetic prenatal testing, infusion, and more.

If you have a PPO California healthcare plan and have either paid a co-pay for generic prescription drugs at a retail pharmacy or paid a higher deductible for a covered medical procedure than you expected, you may be able to file a lawsuit and receive compensation.

California Healthcare Unfair Medical Billing Practices

Examples of unfair medical billing practices that certain California healthcare providers may engage in include:

  • Co-payments that are higher than the drug’s price at market value. In some cases, a $20 co-pay for a generic prescription drug may actually be sold to uninsured customers at a pharmacy for just $1.75, meaning that the insured consumer is overcharged by $18.25.
  • California healthcare providers may overcharge consumers for medical services via labs. An insured patient may be charged hundreds of dollars for certain lab testing, while the lab may only bill an uninsured patient less than a hundred. For patients who do not meet a high deductible required by their health plan, they may be required to pay that substantial sum of hundreds of dollars out of pocket.
  • Some drugs may be marked up substantially without a co-pay. According to pharmacists, this is a nationwide problem. One pharmacist said that customers with insurance were charged $270 for a nausea drug that was available for uninsured consumers for $15 at the pharmacy.

Filing a California Healthcare Unfair Overcharge Lawsuit

Are you a California resident with a PPO insurance plan? You may have been overcharged for California healthcare services, such as lab work, MRIs, or other services that can be found on our investigation page, and you may be able to pursue litigation. Filing a lawsuit can help to provide compensation for monetary loss.

You may be able to file a lawsuit over unfair billing practices for California healthcare if your situation meets a few criteria: live in California, the overcharge occurred in the last 3 years, you have a PPO insurance plain, and you paid a co-pay for generic prescription drugs (or paid more than expected for a covered procedure).

You do not need to be sure that you were overcharged for certain medical costs in order to participate in a California healthcare unfair medical billing class action lawsuit investigation. Consulting an attorney through this investigation form can help you figure this out.
