Verizon Landline Third-Party Billing Settlement Gets Final Approval

Verizon landline third-party billing settlementA federal judge last week granted final approval to a class action settlement between Verizon Communications Inc. and customers who say they were billed for unauthorized third-party charges to their landline phone bills. The approval comes with a new claim filing deadline of October 21, 2013, to receive either a $40 flat payment or a 100% refund of the unauthorized charges you paid.

Several notices of the Verizon third-party billing settlement have been mailed since it was preliminarily approved in February 2012. Each notice contained a different claim filing deadline:

Group 1: November 15, 2012
Group 2: June 7, 2013
Group 3: October 21, 2013

Class Members include all Verizon landline customers nationwide (including individuals, businesses and local governmental entities) who were billed for third-party charges from April 27, 2005 through February 28, 2012.

Some Settlement Class Members may have a claim for hundreds or thousands of dollars in refunds from the Verizon third-party billing class action settlement. That’s why it’s important that Verizon landline customers take advantage of one of the benefits available to them under the class action lawsuit settlement, which provides a free summary of all third-party charges they incurred. You can request this summery here or by calling the Settlement Administrator at (877) 772-6219.

Claim forms and more information on your rights in the Verizon Landline Third-Party Billing Class Action Lawsuit Settlement can be found at www.verizonthirdpartybillingsettlement.com. You can also find detailed instructions for how to file here in our Open Class Action Lawsuits section.

If you filed a timely Claim Form for Group 1 or Group 2, your claim is currently in process and the Settlement Administrator will notify you in writing of the outcome of your claim.

The case is Desiree Moore, et al. v. Verizon, et al., Case No. 9-cv-1823 SBA, U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.

Filed way back in Nov 2013 1st group, resubmitted in 1/14 due to claim form deficiency and have yet to receive a check. Wonder if they are paying out the $40 claims first.

I was in group one, have never heard from settlement since filing and getting confirmation number. I am about to move and wonder how to notify them of address change. It has been over 3 years since filing!

Today… This day, May 15, 2015… (Yes, today, Virginia, there IS a FIOS-Pitching Santy Claus!)… I got my $40 (whoop whoop!) settlement check in the mail. I had to brush away the cobwebs that had accumulated on the check, in order to read that it was indeed from Verizon, & for this settlement; but yep, it finally came. Now I say we all pool together & sue Verizon for INTEREST on our settlement amounts, thats been accruing from 2012 till now!… with any luck, we should be receiving THAT check by the year.. Oh,.. say, 2052.(?) – (give or take a decade). <– Just kidding, Verizon; – thank you. And yes, I will (no doubt) be laughing all the way to the bank… Ok, not laughing, per say, just snickering… Ok, not snickering, really, but I will be smirking…. Ok, maybe not even smirking, but I will be thinking happy thoughts… at least for the first couple of blocks, I just cant guarantee ALL the way TO the bank. (!?)

Thanks for letting us know that someone got a check. I was in group 1 and they owe more than $40. I will let people know if I receive anything.

  8. Edie Treiber says:

If we were to delay payment to ANY utility the way that we are being jerked around, we would be without phone, lights, water, cable loooooooong ago! This is beyond anything that i have the patience for!

  9. Terry says:

It is now the 14th of April 2015 and yet no refund. Is this a joke?

  10. mary says:

Got a response in December, Veeizon appealed. Can go on for months.
