Mature man in front of mirror applying cosmeticsA class action lawsuit filed by a California man says amino acid supplement SeroVital-hgh fails to deliver the anti-aging effects promised by its manufacturers.

Plaintiff Paul Martin says defendant Sanmedica International LLC falsely advertises its SeroVital-hgh product as a way to reverse the human body’s natural aging process by vastly increasing its production of human growth hormone, or HGH.

In fact, Martin claims the product does not increase HGH levels – and even if it did, he says, there is no scientific evidence to back up the claim that HGH provides anti-aging benefits.

According to Martin’s SeroVital-hgh class action lawsuit, Sanmedica advertises that its supplement causes a “682% mean increase in HGH levels.” But in fact, the product is incapable of increasing HGH levels, Martin says.

Martin runs down the ingredient list for SeroVital-hgh, explaining how none of the listed ingredients can increase HGH.

He says the amounts of lysine and arginine in the product aren’t enough to increase HGH. Studies show that it would take twice the amount of arginine in SeroVital-hgh to increase HGH, he says.

Likewise, the product’s glutamine content is inadequate to raise HGH by a factor of thousands, he claims.

Martin says oxy-proline can cause oxidation that actually aggravates the aging process, he claims. He says there is no evidence the last two ingredients, N-acetyl L-cysteine and schizonepta, have any effect on HGH levels.

The company further represents that elevated HGH levels will provide a slew of appealing anti-aging effects – representations that Martin says are also fraudulent.

Martin quotes promotional materials for SeroVital-hgh that promise “wrinkle reduction, decreased body fat, increased lean muscle mass, stronger bones, improved mood, heightened sex drive, and making users look and feel decades – not years, but DECADES – younger.”

According to Martin, only one clinical study has ever found an association between elevated HGH levels and possible anti-aging benefits. That study has since been debunked, he says. And in any case, the results from that study followed from injections of HGH administered over a period of six months.

He quotes subsequent studies that found no improvement in function following increases in HGH levels. One study found that HGH led to “distinctly unpleasant, if not harmful, side effects” like joint pain, stiffness in the hands and swelling in the lower extremities.

Martin says he bought SeroVital-hgh from a GNC store in Studio City, Calif. sometime within the last four years. He says he took the supplement as instructed, taking four capsules every 24 hours – but he never experienced any of the advertised benefits, he claims.

The SeroVital-hgh class action lawsuit raises claims for false advertising, violation of the California Consumer Legal Remedies Act, and breach of express warranty.

If certified as proposed, Martin’s plaintiff Class will include all persons in the U.S. who between Oct. 19, 2012 and the present purchased SeroVital-hgh for their own personal use. He also proposes to represent a subclass of Class Members who reside in California.

He seeks a court order stopping Sanmedica from the allegedly unlawful acts complained of. He also seeks an award of damages, restitution, court costs and attorneys’ fees, all with interest.

Martin is represented by attorneys Shireen M. Clarkson and Ryan J. Clarkson of Clarkson Law Firm PC.

The SeroVital-hgh Anti-Aging False Advertising Class Action Lawsuit is Martin v. Sanmedica International LLC, Case No. 2:16-cv-07794, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

UPDATE: The SeroVital-hgh class action lawsuit was dismissed on July 17, 2017.

My insomnia is through the roof and I feel as though I cant think straight. I believe it has caused a fungal problem.

  2. April says:

Will the pain ever stop, or is it something we are going to have to live with? I get so bad I am unable to stand for very long. Plus I have a hard time getting in and out of my car. I took it for one month and now I feel so bad I can’t and don’t want to do anything. I just want my life back. Will this ever happen?

    1. Bonnie Roman says:

Ive been taking Serovital for several months. My ankles, lower legs, knees have been hurting, can’t stand or walk for long. I’m going to stop taking SeroVital for a week and see if the pain goes away. I’m using pain cream, heating pad and Advil for the pain. I’m having hair loss too.

  3. Fratena Dawson says:

I was taking SeroVital for 3 months and I stopped taking it because my lympnodes began to swell under my arm and under my neck and has left me with a swollen lump node in my clavicle area that you can visibly see. Then, I was diagnosed with pre-diabetics. I have never been diagnosed before for pre-diabetes in my life. My joints stop hurting too. I feel that SeroVital enhances symptoms in your body that you may not be aware you have already.

  4. jose e matienzo says:

I bought serovital at cosco in Puerto Rico. First of all in the box doesn’t say hgh. The instructions put the product like if is a miracle drug but don’t says anything about side effects. I didn’t come to th internet to see what these pills were for I just bought them andtook my every day dosis. In three weeks I began to feel many side effects like my carpal tunnel gets active. I took a blood test and my bodys chemistry change, my sugar levels get high that I never haveit before. I feel pain in my extremeties. My feet get diabetes neuropathy. I don’t know why these product still in the market and don’t know why a lawsuit was dismiss in the California state because my experience was a very bad one and I don’t take those pills since three weeks ago and still having side effects

    1. Kelly says:

  5. Carol says:

I am 57 years old. I was taking serovital for approx 3 months and found it was working with respect to my skin looking good and my muscle tone greatly improving. But it all took a turn for the worst. My muscles and joints became inflamed, my hands wouldn’t close fully, it felt like my muscles were rubber bands that were too short not allowing enough stretch to close my hands. I went to the doctor and told her I think I have carpel tunnel., that every morning I felt my pain was effecting a different area of my body, It was crazy! She ran a blood test and found I have full blown rheumatoid arthritis. Which I didnt have in my previous blood test 5 months ago. I immediately stopped taking the pills. I strongly believe this product brought the RA on. I now need to go on a medication as I am in immmese pain. RA medication depresses your immune system which has many of its own side effects that can cause more problems for me. I don’t know what recourse I have at this time. I am looking for more information from uses that may have had the same reaction. I wouldn’t recommend taking the risk and using this product. I welcome any feedback. Thank you.

    1. Tricia says:

I am 55 years old, and started taking SeroVital HGH between the end of Sept to November 2017 and stopped it when I began having painful joint and muscle pain in my upper arms and right leg. Not to mention It didn’t make me feel better as the company claims it will. In fact I had so much pain, I was unable to sleep at night which left me tired all day which was dangerous when I was driving anywhere. It has been over two months and I am still in pain and unable to lift anything from 15lb and up without pain and extreme discomfort. I was watching my 18 month old grandson the other day and almost dropped him because I completely had no strength to hold him and put him in the high chair. I felt strongly I had better google this product because I hadn’t had this particular problem before taking this falsely advertised hormone supplement. I am going to make an appointment today with my doctor, as soon as she can get me in to do some test.

      1. Tricia C says:

UPDATE: I began taking SeroVital hgh the end of Sept to Nov 2017 then six months after I stopped taking SeroVital HGH besides my upper arms still painfull, I began vaginal bleeding, so I went to my OBGyn doctor in June 2018, and he had a biopsy done. I had been postmenopausal for several years without any sign of a period. When the biopsy results came back, I was given a diagnosis of Endrometrian (Uterine) cancer Figo grade 1. Prior to taking SerVital HGH I had no complications with arm or muscle aches, or uterine bleeding. I had to have a complete hysterectomy in Aug 2018, and since they caught it at such an early stage, it hadn’t spread so no treatment was required. I am now totally convinced that this product MUST BE BANNED off the market. Interested in any feedback on this subject.

    2. Donald Flores says:

Hi Carol. I have also used this product and had the exact same reaction you did. My muscles and joints became inflamed, my hands won’t fully close, just like your rubber band analogy (very painful). I also have been diagnosed with RA. Additionally, like Tricia, I have severe muscle pain on the back of my upper arms and like Trilla I am having severe neck pain (to the point I can barely turn my head). Today, I noticed it got MUCH worse after taking this product. I will discontinue it today and see what happens.

    3. Daisy Song says:

I took SevoVital for years. Recently, I have developed joint pain and symptoms very much like the RA. I am planning to go to the doctor. I am shocked that people have symptoms like me after taking this product.

  6. Trilla says:

Hi Lynn, sorry to hear you’re having so much issues I am having the same as well I not only have headaches severe nausea neck pain now I’m having thyroid problems I’m making a doctor’s appointment to get a blood work done to find out what’s going on we need to find out how we can stop this company from false ads and statements

  7. lynn k. baugh says:

IF I KNEW HOW TO FILE CLASS ACTION FOR THIS FAKE “DRUG”..I WOULD..NOT ONLY DID NOT HELP ME BUT I HAD TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS AND IM NOW PRESENTING SYMPTOMS OF POSSIBLE PITUITARY TUMOR..JUST HAD A CT FRIDAY…THIS DOES NOT DO WHAT IT PROMISES…HAS TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS AND MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR OVERSTIMULATION OF THE PITUITARY GLAND (LOCATED IN YOUR BRAIN!)…MY THYROID AND PARATHYROID QUIT WORKING..I HAVE HORRIBLE HEADACHES…IM WAITING FOR FURTHER TESTS (IM A VETERAN…THEY DONT DO ANYTHING IN A HURRY)…TO SEE IF SEROVITAL STIMULATED MY PITUITARY TO THE POINT OF TUMOR..

    1. jose e matienzo says:

I know those side effects you feel because I consider myself most healthy and when I take serovital I get many of side effects that you have too and stop taking it but still having it.

  8. Trilla says:

I have been taking serovital for the last several weeks and this product is horrible it does not do what it’s supposed to do it makes you nauseated excruciating headache diarrhea stiff muscles why is this on the market and why has the FDA not pulled it yet and the claim that it is HGH is just not a fair reading on the box that is false advertisement

    1. lynn k. baugh says:

me2 trilla…nausea, dizziness..terrible headache…my dr. thinks it overstimulated pituitary gland (in the brain)..just had a CT 3 days ago

    2. Tricia says:

Trilla when I was taking this product end of 2017 I have had joint and muscle problems then and even now after I stopped taking it a couple months later. At the time I was having headaches, nausea and sharp stabbing pain in my head but didn’t connect it with this product until I read your comment. OMG this stuff needs to be pulled off the market by the FDA immediately. I read about this class action lawsuit by a man named Martin from CA. I suppose we can contact his attorney to see if this law firm can recommend us to someone in each of our area…… Hope this helps.
