A Colorado husband has filed a Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit on behalf of his deceased wife, whom he says died as a result of the use of Roundup weed killer.
Plaintiff Ronald R. has filed this Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit on the behalf of his wife, Rosemary R., who died. Ronald claims that her use of Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer on a consistent basis led to her death from non Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Rosemary began to use Roundup products in 1976, over 40 years ago. Her husband believes that as a direct result of her use of the Monsanto products, she developed non Hodgkin’s lymphoma and died as a result of her disease.
Roundup May be Dangerous
Monsanto, the agricultural biotech giant, is based in St. Louis and is the world’s leading producer of a chemical called glyphosate. According to this Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit, Monsanto discovered that glyphosate worked well as a broad-spectrum herbicide in the 1970s.
Glyphosate is the active ingredient in many Roundup products. It is an indiscriminate herbicide meaning that it is sprayed on everything, but only kills certain plants that contain a specific enzyme.
Yearly, over 250 million pounds of glyphosate is sprayed on U.S. crops. Many believe that this has led to the increase in development of genetically modified crops, or GMOs, that resist the glyphosate.
In 2010, 70% of corn and cotton and 90% of soybean crops in the U.S. were modified to resist glyphosate. Many critics of GMOs say their widespread existence is detrimental to public health.
But aside from GMOs, glyphosate has been linked to many deadly diseases and conditions including non Hodgkin’s lymphoma, leukemia, multiple myeloma, B-cell lymphoma, bone cancer, renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer), skin tumors, pancreatic islet cell tumors, chromosomal damage, and DNA damage.
However, according to Ronald’s Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit, Monsanto has been touting the safety of their products as early as the 1990s. In 1996, the New York Attorney General filed a lawsuit against Monsanto challenging their claims that Roundup and glyphosate were “safer than table salt” and “practically non-toxic” to mammals, fish and birds.
This lawsuit also contested claims that Monsanto made about their products, including that it will stay put and not leach into the soil, that it biodegrades into naturally occurring elements, and that kids and pets can play safely where it has been sprayed.
Roundup has been linked to many types of cancers. Studies done in the past 20 years show evidence of “cell-cycle dysregulation,” which is the precursor to tumor development. According to this Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit, other studies have shown the toxicity of glyphosate on a cellular level.
In 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer found that glyphosate is a probable carcinogen and that caused DNA and chromosomal damage on the cellular level in human cells.
Ronald has filed this lawsuit alleging Monsanto is responsible for negligence, design defect, failure to warn, breach of implied warranties, loss of consortium and wrongful death.
This Roundup Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Lawsuit is Case No. 1:17-cv-01286-STV in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado.
