An Ohio woman recently filed a lawsuit over the cancer drug Taxotere, alleging that it caused her to permanently lose her hair after chemo.
The plaintiff, Amy H., says she began taking a form of docetaxel for cancer treatment in March 2016, and continued this treatment for a few months, until July 2016. Unfortunately, she claims that as a result of her exposure to the cancer treatment, she lost her hair after chemo was over.
The loss of hair after chemo wasn’t just on her scalp, she says, but also her eyelashes and eyebrows as well. However, in the years since her chemo was over, Amy says her hair growth has allegedly not returned to normal, and she’s been left with permanent loss of hair after chemo treatment.
Amy, like most cancer patients, says she was aware of the risk of losing her hair after chemo—but what she didn’t know was that the hair loss could be permanent. She claims that Sanofi, the drug’s manufacturer, failed to adequately warned her of the risk of permanent loss of hair after chemo.
Amy filed her Taxotere lawsuit on Aug. 18, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana, joining a growing number of similar claims. The Taxotere lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including failure to warn, negligence, fraudulent misrepresentation and concealment, and several others. Amy’s husband Christopher also filed a count of loss of consortium.
Amy’s lawsuit is far from the first to be filed over persistent loss of hair after chemo. If you have suffered from hair loss after chemotherapy, you may be eligible to file a lawsuit and receive compensation.
Basics of Taxotere
Taxotere (also known by its generic name, docetaxel) is a popular treatment for breast cancer manufactured by pharmaceutical giant Sanofi-Aventis. Since Taxotere’s approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1996, it has become one of the more popular chemotherapy drugs available on the market today.
Losing Hair After Chemo
Unfortunately, Taxotere is not without its risks. More and more patients are coming forward with allegations that Taxotere carries a higher risk of loss of hair after chemo than other options, and that they were not adequately warned about this risk.
Hair loss is a common symptom associated with chemotherapy treatment—the majority of cancer patients go into treatment aware that they will likely lose their hair. However, patients generally expect that their hair will grow back once their chemotherapy treatment is over. But a growing number of cancer patients like Amy are finding their permanent problems with hair loss after chemotherapy to be much more lasting in nature than they ever expected.
Filing a Taxotere Hair Loss Lawsuit
If you or someone you love has suffered from permanent loss of hair after chemo with a docetaxel medication like Taxotere, you may be able to file or join a lawsuit.
Filing a Taxotere lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering a cancer patient endures, or take away the effects of hair loss after chemo, but it can help compensate for the financial expenses incurred by cancer treatment bills or even lost wages.
The Lost Hair After Chemo Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-07912-JTM-MBN, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana.
