A Pennsylvania man’s Xarelto lawsuit alleges that he suffered from a serious Xarelto side effect, leading led to major complications and permanent injury, as a result of taking the popular blood thinner medication.
The plaintiff, David B., filed his Xarelto side effect lawsuit against Janssen Pharmaceuticals and several other defendants. The lawsuit brings complaints including fraud, design defect, failure to warn, and negligent representation.
David alleges in his Xarelto lawsuit that he began taking the blood clot treatment on February 7, 2014, after discussing his options with his physician. On April 8, 2014, David began experiencing gastrointestinal bleeding, rectal bleeding, and anemia. These severe Xarelto side effects required David to be hospitalized.
In addition to the painful physical injury, David alleges that he suffered from mental anguish as well.
David’s Xarelto lawsuit alleges that Janssen and the other defendants failed to properly investigate and test the safety of Xarelto. His lawsuit also claims that the defendants failed to provide adequate warnings to the public and the medical community that there is no effective antidote available to reverse the serious bleeding that may happen when taking Xarelto.
What is Xarelto?
Xarelto (generic name rivaroxaban) has been targeted in a rising number of Xarelto lawsuits against Janssen Pharmaceuticals. Janssen is a subsidiary of the pharmaceutical giant Johnson & Johnson.
Xarelto is a blood thinner used to prevent dangerous blood clotting. Blood clot treatment is often necessary for patients who suffer from atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs), or deep vein thrombosis (blood clots deep inside the patient’s body).
While most Xarelto side effects are mild, a number of studies and lawsuits have linked the medication with a risk of severe bleeding.
Many Xarelto lawsuits claim that the manufacturer knew of these risks, yet continued to market the blood clot treatment as if it were safe and effective, diminishing or dismissing any concern over the possibility of a severe Xarelto side effect.
