If you purchased a Dell, Hewlett-Packard (HP) or Apple notebook that contains a NVIDIA chip between 2005 and 2010, you may be able to claim one of several benefits from a class action lawsuit settlement.

The NVIDIA class action lawsuit accuses the chip maker of selling defective Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) and Media and Communications Processors (MCPs) that affected the performance of some of the notebook computers in which they were incorporated. These defective chips cause symptoms such as distorted or scrambled video and sometimes no video to appear on the screen. Some Dell and HP notebooks may also experience random characters, lines or garbled images and intermittent video issues, and some HP notebooks may fail to detect the wireless adaptor or wireless network as a result of these defective chips.

Nearly 50 different notebook computers manufactured by Dell, HP-Compaq and Apple contain these allegedly defective chips, including Dell Inspirations, Latitudes, Precisions, Vostros and XPSs; HP Pavilions and Compaq Presarios; and Apple MacBook Pros. A complete list of notebook models and the corresponding purchase dates can be found in the class action settlement notice. Only certain versions of these models contain NVIDIA GPU or MCP chips, even though the notebook computer has the same model name, and only the notebooks containing the chips that were purchased during the time period corresponding to each model are included in the settlement. You can look up your computer’s serial number to find out if it’s affected by the settlement on the Settlement Administrator’s website.

As part of the class action settlement, NVIDIA has agreed to provide one of three benefits, depending on which model you have and whether you paid for repairs:

(1) Replacement of the NVIDIA chip inside your notebook computer;
(2) Replacement HP notebook computer with one similar in kind and value if you bought a subject HP notebook computer;
(3) Reimbursement of either the entire amount that you spent to have the notebook computer repaired due to a previous failure of the NVIDIA graphics chip or a portion of that amount, depending on the number of people who submit valid claims for reimbursement.

In order to receive any of these benefits, you must submit a valid claim form and supporting documentation during the claims filing period. The claims period will begin after the court grants final approval of the settlement, which is expected to be December 20, 2010. A claim form, including instructions on how to make a claim, will be available on the Settlement Adminstrator’s website after final approval of the settlement given. If you did not receive the settlement notice by email, then register your email address here so that you will be notified when the claim period begins.

If you wish to exclude yourself from the NVIDIA class action lawsuit settlement, you must mail your exclusion request no later than November 5, 2010.Â

Hello, Is it to late to make a claim on this Nvidia Class Action Lawsuit? I have a HP Laptop that i purchased in 2006. The laptop display will longer power up. I purchased two hp pavilion dv7-3173nr and I have had both of them with the screen that stopped working after the computers were only a couple of years old. they were bought at the same time with either QVC or HSN shopping. Is it to late to get in on the lawsuits ? Thanks
Took delivery, 9/2006,of a dell e1705… dell replaced the nvidia geforce 7900 gs just before the warranty ran out…..2/2014 card is dead again….
I’ve had 2 dv6700 laptop / notebooks that both not only had the video inverter board go out, but the computers ran so hot they would shut themselves off even with fans running underneath while they were elevated. Both units eventually did not turn on anymore. I’m shocked that those models weren’t included in any type of recall as they are known issues.
I was in this settlement and got a Compaq Presario CQ56-1155DX . Much cheaper unit than I had. Quess what ? Not even two years later and have multiple crashes and graphics just went out. Does anyone know, can we take action against them again?
I didn’t know anything about it either until just recently the thing freaked out. Thought it was the hard drive. Wasn’t. I didn’t use it all that much as I am on a computer all day at work. I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1262us.Does anyone know if we can do anything about it now?
I purchased my HP Laptop in 2007 the DV2000 started going bad after about 6 months, everything seem likes its about to work but the screen never turns on, i have all of the symptoms of the error that Nvidia made. I tried some different methods to fix it but nothing worked, so i put it into storage basically not using it, was going to use it for parts. When i come to realize that a court issue has been brought up about it, my question is am i covered under this lawsuit? or do i have to suffer what i did not know?
My HP computer DV9000 nvidia chip set failed. Do I have any recourse at this time. YThe machine has noy been used much thats the reason it has not failed sooner.
