3M recall overview: 

  • Who: 3M is recalling 46,700 of its Peltor X4 series earmuffs. 
  • Why: The noise-reducing earmuffs can develop a crack on the color portion of the plastic cups, leading to over-exposure to noise.
  • Where: The earmuffs recall is valid In the United States and Canada.

A new 3M recall has been issued for 46,700 of the company’s Peltor X4 series noise-reducing earmuffs because of a crack risk that could lead to over-exposure to loud noise.

The earmuffs recall includes 40,000 noise-reducing earmuffs sold in the U.S. and 6,700 in Canada. The recalled earmuffs could potentially develop cracks in the color portion of their plastic cups, which may negatively impact their noise-reducing effects.

The earmuffs were sold by industrial distributors and on Amazon.com for between ​​$16 and $26 from May 2023 through June 2023.

The earmuffs are black with green or orange accents and are over-the-head, behind-the-head, hard hat-attached, or full brim hard hat-attached. The words “3M PELTOR” is stamped on the outside of the earcups.

The recall includes earmuffs manufactured between March 2020 and September 2022.

3M earmuffs recall: Contact company for free replacement, shipping

3M says it has not received any reports of injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

Customers should stop using the earmuffs immediately and contact 3M for a free replacement with free shipping, according to the 3M recall.

3M recalled more than 500,000 Scotch thermal laminators in December 2022 as a safety feature on them could malfunction during overheating, posing a fire hazard.
