Monsanto Roundup cancer lymphoma hands plantingPlaintiff Carmen B. has filed a lawsuit in Georgia federal court against the Monsanto Company, alleging that the company’s Roundup weed killer causes serious injuries and adverse side effects, including non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The allegations reported within the Monsanto lawsuit assert that the Roundup herbicide and its active ingredient glyphosate are “defective, dangerous to human health, unfit and unsuitable to be marketed and sold in commerce, and lacked proper warnings and directions as to the dangers associated with its use.”

The Monsanto lawsuit alleges that Carmen, a resident of Georgia, sustained personal injuries due to the exposure of Roundup. She says that because she was exposed to Roundup and the active ingredient glyphosate, she developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Monsanto Lawsuit Roundup Facts

Monsanto’s Roundup is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. But according to Carmen’s lawsuit and those of many other plaintiffs, the product purportedly causes cancer.

Monsanto’s Roundup Weed and Grass Killer has been popularly believed to be a safe herbicide used by landscapers, gardeners, and agricultural workers. However, clinical studies have ascertained that there is an increased risk of developing cancer through use of the popular herbicide. This risk is particularly increased among those who come in direct contact with Roundup.

There have allegedly been 1,100 lawsuits filed from agricultural laborers and gardeners across the country accusing the product of developing the condition of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

In addition, a California judge, in January 2017, allowed the state to require Monsanto to explicitly warn consumers that the use of Roundup may cause cancer–a warning Monsanto has been trying to avoid having to issue.

Moreover, Monsanto, allegedly continues to advertise of the product’s efficacy and safety to its consumers and the public.

Several governing bodies have been hesitant to admit the dangers in the use of Roundup and its active glyphosate ingredient. The IARC, or International Agency for Research on Cancer, has been the only governing body announcing the product’s risks.

According to the Monsanto lawsuit, in March 2015, “the IARC’s working group published its conclusion that the glyphosate contained in the defendant’s Roundup herbicide, is a Class 2A “probably carcinogen” as demonstrated by the mechanistic evidence of carcinogenicity in humans and sufficient evidence of carcinogenicity in animals.”

The IARC is a division of the WHO, or World Health Organization.

The allegations being filed against Monsanto in Carmen’s Monsanto lawsuit purport that: 1) exposure to Roundup’s active glyphosate ingredient may cause cancer; 2) Monsanto has known of the adverse effects and complications linked to glyphosate for years, including the fact that it may cause cancer; 3) warning labels from the Monsanto Roundup product fail to warn consumers of alleged cancer risks; and 4) Monsanto allegedly misrepresented the purported risks and adverse effects that may come about from glyphosate use from the public, farmers, and government agencies.

Consumers who have developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma or other types of cancer after using Roundup may qualify for a free case evaluation, and may also be entitled to compensation for their alleged injuries.

The Monsanto Lawsuit is Case No. 7:17-cv-00160-HL, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia, Valdosta Division.
