Monsanto is facing a new Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit from a Kentucky couple, alleging the manufacturing company failed to warn them against potential cancer risks.
The couple filing the Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit claims the company either knew or should have known that glyphosate, the primary ingredient in Roundup, may be a potential carcinogenic.
Researchers reportedly began investigating a potential link between Roundup’s main ingredient glyphosate and different forms of cancer in the 1980s, when a large number of farmers were diagnosed with non Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Along with glyphosate, other pesticides were being examined for potential carcinogenic effects.
Plaintiffs Lenvil R. and Helenka R. opted to file this Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit after discovering other patients may have suffered similar complications and that several studies had found a potential correlation.
According to the Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit, Lenvil reportedly developed this deadly form of cancer as an alleged result of using the popular weedkiller on a regular basis.
Overview of Non hodgkin’s lymphoma Lawsuit
Lenvil had reportedly used Roundup on a regular basis from 1976 to 1988, when using the popular weedkiller on the golf course where he was employed. He was eventually diagnosed with non Hodgkin’s lymphoma on Sept. 15, 2016, allegedly as a result of regular exposure to Roundup.
At this point in time, Lenvil has undergone several rounds of chemotherapy and is under close monitoring by his oncologist. According to this non Hodgkins lymphoma lawsuit, Monsanto Company either knew or should have known about the potential carcinogenic effects of Roundup.
In March 2015, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that glyphosate is a possible carcinogen. The IARC had also connected four other pesticides may increase the risk for cancer development, with the report being published after reviewing several studies stemming back in 2001.
These studies were published in the United States, Canada, and Sweden, with the inquiries finding similar results. The Roundup study published by the United States was in the journal Occupational and Environmental Medicine, which stated that glyphosate and certain other pesticides could be “potentially carcinogenic” and was linked to higher risk of non Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
The Canadian study was published in the 2001 in the American Association for Cancer Research, with the study stating that subjects that were “exposed to glyphosate were developing non-Hodgkins Lymphoma after being exposed to the chemical for under 10 years.”
Even though though carcinogenic effects could be devastating to consumers, Monsanto Company allegedly failed to warn against this possibility. The variations of cancer roundup has been linked to include but not limited to:
- Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
- Leukemia
- Multiple Myeloma
- B-cell Lymphoma
- Bone Cancer
- Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer)
- Skin Tumors
- Pancreatic Islet Cell Tumors
At all times relevant, Lenvil had used the product for its intended purpose and did not use it against the safety instructions. Monsanto Company allegedly failed to reach out to Lenvil or provide any relevant studies mentioned above. Lenvil stated he would not have used the popular weedkiller if he had known about potential Roundup non Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
This Roundup Non Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-00601-DJH-DW in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Kentucky.
