Roundup cancer Monsanto gardening weed killerA couple has filed a lawsuit against the Monsanto Company alleging the company’s product, Roundup, caused the husband to suffer severe injuries including the development of stage IV non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

Plaintiff James B. and his wife, Teresa B., residents of Newton, Ga., filed the Roundup cancer lawsuit on Nov. 28, 2017 in Georgia federal court.

Teresa has joined the action with a claim for loss of consortium, alleging she has endured the “personal injuries suffered by her husband” caused by his development of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma due to exposure to Roundup, the Roundup cancer lawsuit states.

The plaintiffs demand a trial by jury.

Monsanto’s Roundup

Roundup is one of the most commonly used herbicides in the world. However, glyphosate, the product’s main ingredient, has been claimed to cause an increased risk for cancer development, particularly non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. This is especially the case for those who come in direct contact with the product, such as gardeners, farmers, and other agricultural laborers.

Once believed to be one of the safest herbicides in the world, Roundup is now the subject of more than 1,000 Roundup cancer lawsuits have been filed throughout the country from agricultural workers, gardeners, and laborers who have suffered from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after Roundup exposure.

Despite the Monsanto Company’s failed attempt to appeal a California judge’s decision to allow state regulators to list glyphosate as a potential carcinogen, such warnings have been currently added as of January 2017.

Plaintiffs claim the Monsanto Company has further attempted to misrepresent the public and agency officials of glyphosate’s cancer risks and harms to humans.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), a division of the World Health Organization (WHO), has listed glyphosate as a “probable” carcinogen. According to the United Stated Environment Protection Agency (EPA), current individual exposure of glyphosate is surpassing safe glyphosate limits that have been established.

According to the EPA, “[i]n California, glyphosate ranks high among pesticides causing illness or injury to workers, who report numerous incidents of eye and skin irritation from splashes during mixing and loading.”

According to the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCSUSA), concerns have been raised that multibillion dollar agricultural companies, such as Monsanto, have often set restrictive conditions for independent scientists to determine crop production, possible risks, and how well biotechnology in agriculture works.

Since the IARC determined that glyphosate was a probable carcinogen, lawsuits have been filed against the Monsanto Company by workers suffering from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

A class action lawsuit against Monsanto has also begun in Nebraska. These lawsuits, including the Roundup cancer lawsuit filed by James and Teresa, all raise and share the same concerns. These concerns are that individuals, agricultural workers, and gardeners, all believed that Monsanto’s Roundup weed killer was safe until they were eventually diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

The allegations filed against Monsanto include that Roundup labels failed to warn consumers about the risk for the development of cancer, that glyphosate can cause cancer, and that Monsanto knew that glyphosate presents a human health risk and failed to inform the public, farmers, and government agencies of these risks.

The Roundup Cancer Lawsuit is Case No. 1:17-cv-04778-CAP, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia.
