monat-conditionerA new class action lawsuit alleges that Monat Global Corp. promotes its haircare products as being able to help growth, but consumers say they actually lost hair and experienced irritation after using the products.

Lead plaintiffs, Trisha Whitmire and Emily Yanes de Flores, allege in their class action lawsuit that they and others purchased Monat haircare products because they were promised aid in hair growth and health; however, say the plaintiffs, the chemicals in the products actually lead to increased hair loss.

They say the misrepresentations are part of a scam by Monat to get consumers to purchase even more expensive products from them.

Both plaintiffs allege that they experienced significant hair loss after investing substantial sums in Monat products. They say they brought their concerns to the company, but were told they were going through a “detox” process and would see healthier hair if they continued to use the Monat products. They say the company also pointed the finger at suppliers when they continued to complain.

“Shamefully, hair loss claims are met with unsubstantiated claims of a ‘detox’ period that will cause increased hair loss before the purported benefits of Monat haircare products accrue or worse yet, suggestions to spend more money on still more expensive Monat haircare products,” the Monat class action lawsuit states.

Frustratingly, allege the plaintiffs, the hair loss does not stop, even after consumers stop using the Monat products.

According to the Monat class action lawsuit, Monat advertises its products as “naturally-based” and “safe.” The plaintiffs say they were drawn in by claims that the haircare products were “suitable for all skin and hair types.”

Further, allege the plaintiffs, Monat claims that their products stop hair loss and aid in regrowth. The website, according to the complaint, touts chemicals used in Monat products as clinically proven to provide a “significant decrease in hair loss effect and increase in hair regrowth.”

“In fact, MONAT Hair Care Products use numerous harsh chemicals and known human allergens. As a result of the defective nature of the MONAT Hair Care Products, they were and are unfit for their intended use and purpose,” the Monat class action lawsuit claims.

According to the class action lawsuit, many other consumers experienced the same problems and misleading responses from the haircare company; however, Monat, a multilevel marketing scheme, has scrubbed customer complaints from the internet.

The Monat class action alleges that the wealthy family running the business has even sued a woman who set up a Facebook page for those who suffered hair loss after using Monat.

The plaintiffs seek to represent Monat hair care users who purchased the products since Jan. 1, 2014.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages as well as a court order stopping Monat from allegedly misrepresenting their product to the public.

The consumers are represented by Brian W. Warwick and Janet R. Varnell of Varnell & Warwick PA, Charles J. LaDuca and William H. Anderson of Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca LLP, John A. Yanchunis of Morgan & Morgan PA, and Joel R. Rhine and Dara Damery of Rhine Law Firm PC.

The Monat Haircare Products Class Action Lawsuit is Trisha Whitmire, et al. v. Monat Global Corp., Case No. 1:18-cv-20636, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

I have used monat for over 14 months i have been experiencing my hair to break off for a few months now and i had miscarriage back a few months ago come to find out it was the red clover inside the shampoo that caused my miscarriage. I am devastated the fact a shampoo line caused me to loose my baby

  2. Toni cole says:

My hair was destroyed also. I gave it five months and 3 lines until i actually figured out monat was the culprit and not helping at all! 3 month’s since i haven’t used and little improvement.

  3. Stephanie Scott says:

I would love to join this class action suit. I used Monat for 8 weeks only. I just had to cut 4″ off of my hair. The breakage was awful and my hair has been falling out nonstop. It’s embarrassing to go out. I’ve contacted customer care to cancel / send back the products and have explained what’s happened to my hair. Their response was that I’ll be charged to cancel, unless I want to try a different product. They also stated, “Everyone’s hair is different and so there are different results.” I’m disgusted and am still left with unhealthy damaged hair!

  4. Cathy Moseley says:

I purchased monet from my hair dresser about a year ago. After a few months of use my hair became dry, coarse and tangeled after ea use. To this day it is still dry and difficult to comb after washing

Not a Monat issue…but making you aware of the same issues with “It Works” Hair Skin Nails Pill Supplement Product. And hopefully what happened to me after discontinued use of this product won’t happen to you…

My experience with “It Works” Hair Skin Nails…Not sure of Rights Inquiry:

Consumer Rights or Product Liability… I believe that my trust was betrayed in this Case Situations and need your help. I’d like to open a lawsuit regarding a Hair Product that as a result of discontinued use caused severe hair loss injury damages… I feel that the company fraudulently miss represented the product, and should be held accountable. Your legal advice is most important in regards to this case situation and my rights… It Works Hair Skin & Nails Pills Supplements product Company, and its manufacturing company for hair loss injury damages… I’d really like your helpful advice to clarify things as a consumer what my Rights are to recover compensatory damages under the Law in this case situations.

I’d like to open up a Lawsuit/ Class Action Lawsuit… Regarding the Hair pills supplement product called Hair, Skin and Nails by the “It Works” Company; and the It Works Hair Skin Nails Manufacturing company: made in the USA, and the It Works Marketing, Inc. Palmetto, FL. 34221; 800-537-2395… their Consumer warning of what could happen if use of the product is stopped or discontinued is lacking potential hidden risk for harm and hair loss damages…

From 3/2015 to 3/2016: I used the product for approximately one year, and I discontinued use of the product around 3/2016 because I was satisfied with result at the time… gradually my hair began to change, then the change went from bad to worse as of August/ September of 2016…I suffered extreme hair damages: Breakage, Dullness, Hair Loss, Balding on both sides of my head until about over 60% of my hair was Loss…never experienced anything like this before; I went to see a Dermatologist, and she said, “that I had Alopecia”, a condition that’s never been part of my medical history that I know was the result caused by discontinued use of the product… my hair grew like it was on steroids, and when that growth stimulant began to weaken to the point it was no longer present, the beauty turned into me being an emotional wreck, and my hair badly damaged and distressed…

    Cases Summary:

    1. Defective Drug by “It Works” Hair Skin and Nails Company, in that you could suffer harmful side effects of severe hair loss damage if supplements are discontinued…which could have been prevented… (Act of negligence to fully warn customers of potential harm and hair loss damages); there wasn’t any kind of potential hair loss warning of discontinued use on the labeling or given verbally…I feel that this company and its manufacturing company’s advertising, and sales tactics are manipulative and deceptive…

I feel discriminated against, and denied my civil rights to legal representation due to not having current medical insurance…I’d like to know as a consumer what are my compensatory rights…

    Sincerely,

    Vonda
