monat-conditionerA new class action lawsuit alleges that Monat Global Corp. promotes its haircare products as being able to help growth, but consumers say they actually lost hair and experienced irritation after using the products.

Lead plaintiffs, Trisha Whitmire and Emily Yanes de Flores, allege in their class action lawsuit that they and others purchased Monat haircare products because they were promised aid in hair growth and health; however, say the plaintiffs, the chemicals in the products actually lead to increased hair loss.

They say the misrepresentations are part of a scam by Monat to get consumers to purchase even more expensive products from them.

Both plaintiffs allege that they experienced significant hair loss after investing substantial sums in Monat products. They say they brought their concerns to the company, but were told they were going through a “detox” process and would see healthier hair if they continued to use the Monat products. They say the company also pointed the finger at suppliers when they continued to complain.

“Shamefully, hair loss claims are met with unsubstantiated claims of a ‘detox’ period that will cause increased hair loss before the purported benefits of Monat haircare products accrue or worse yet, suggestions to spend more money on still more expensive Monat haircare products,” the Monat class action lawsuit states.

Frustratingly, allege the plaintiffs, the hair loss does not stop, even after consumers stop using the Monat products.

According to the Monat class action lawsuit, Monat advertises its products as “naturally-based” and “safe.” The plaintiffs say they were drawn in by claims that the haircare products were “suitable for all skin and hair types.”

Further, allege the plaintiffs, Monat claims that their products stop hair loss and aid in regrowth. The website, according to the complaint, touts chemicals used in Monat products as clinically proven to provide a “significant decrease in hair loss effect and increase in hair regrowth.”

“In fact, MONAT Hair Care Products use numerous harsh chemicals and known human allergens. As a result of the defective nature of the MONAT Hair Care Products, they were and are unfit for their intended use and purpose,” the Monat class action lawsuit claims.

According to the class action lawsuit, many other consumers experienced the same problems and misleading responses from the haircare company; however, Monat, a multilevel marketing scheme, has scrubbed customer complaints from the internet.

The Monat class action alleges that the wealthy family running the business has even sued a woman who set up a Facebook page for those who suffered hair loss after using Monat.

The plaintiffs seek to represent Monat hair care users who purchased the products since Jan. 1, 2014.

The plaintiffs are seeking damages as well as a court order stopping Monat from allegedly misrepresenting their product to the public.

The consumers are represented by Brian W. Warwick and Janet R. Varnell of Varnell & Warwick PA, Charles J. LaDuca and William H. Anderson of Cuneo Gilbert & LaDuca LLP, John A. Yanchunis of Morgan & Morgan PA, and Joel R. Rhine and Dara Damery of Rhine Law Firm PC.

The Monat Haircare Products Class Action Lawsuit is Trisha Whitmire, et al. v. Monat Global Corp., Case No. 1:18-cv-20636, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

I’ve been using Monat since right after thanksgiving 2017. I signed up as a VIP. At first I didn’t notice anything either positive or negative. I wasn’t thrilled with their styling products but I was encouraged to try new items. About 2 months ago my hair started shedding abnormally. I can just pull on my hair it it pulls out at the root. I was told it’s normal to lose 50-100 hairs a day, which I knew. But this is scary abnormal for me and my hairdresser at my last visit commented and was alarmed. She told me to be careful using Monat as she had heard bad things. I am afraid to stop using it but also afraid to continue using it.

I, too, was a believer in their promotional promises. My hair is falling out by the handfuls. I stopped the product and it is still falling out a month later. What can i expect for the timeline for it to stop and start recovering? There is one lawsuit that claims irreversible damage. Any thoughts on next steps to help? Any advice appreciated.

I started using Monat about two months ago, the revitalize line which is supposed to encourage growth and fullness. Within a month, I started losing clumps of hair and it’s dry and brittle. I am especially upset about the timing as my daughter’s wedding is in two weeks so there’s no time to repair my hair beforehand. I will never use Monat again.

    1. Lucy says:

Yes this product put me through hell stoppedusibg it 4 months ago just starting seeing the ‘shedding’ and hair loss slowing down!

  6. Janel Baker says:

I started using Monat in May 2017. I suffered from alopecia and had a very large bald spot on the side of my scalp. I tried so many different products and even did steroid shots on several occasions and nothing ever helped. I heard about these products and thought I would give them a try. I started seeing a tiny bit growth within 30 days and around month 5 my bald spot was completely filled in. These products have been a life-changer for me. I have gained my confidence back and no longer have to wear my hair in a ponytail to cover my large bald spot. I never thought it would be possible.

  7. Becky says:

I used Monet hair shampoo for approx. 2 months. At first loved the product as my hair felt fuller and very soft. Then, it quickly took a turn for the worst. While using the shampoo my hair felt clumpy and hard to get my fingers through. That is when I noticed the hair loss. My hair fell out in clumps. I was frightened i would go bald. I immediately stopped use. I canceled my contract and had to pay a $25 fee. Shortly after i canceled my rep contacted me, and told me I just received a bad bottle of shampoo and sent me replacements. I will never use this product again.

I used Monat hair care products from July 2017 to February 2, 2018 and had a dry itchy, flakey scalp and I still have open, bleeding sores on my scalp that won’t go away. I also experienced very strange and alarming hormonal issues. I would NEVER use this product again and would tell anyone that does, to be careful!

    1. Danielle says:

It doesn’t case any problems at all I been using it since November 2017

    2. Sjenn says:

Your hormonal issues are more likely the cause of your hair problems, It’s not possible for Monat to affect your hormones. If more people would research the ingredients they would understand these products are cleansing and healing to the scalp, UNLESS you have an allergic reaction to a specific ingredient in them, which could then cause sores on the scalp, as with ANY product you’re sensitive to. I’m sorry you, and many others have had a bad experience, it’s an awful feeling. But, I have seen so many more who’s lives have been changed for the better using Monat. I hope for the best for you.

  9. Carol says:

This stuff destroyed my hair and scalp. Red bumps in scalp and dry brittle hair that broke off. I have pictures taken 2 days apart and it doesn’t even look like my hair! That was 3 months ago my hair is starting to grow back out.

  10. KD Hansen says:

I have seen it work for some people but it did not work for me. I have stopped using it. My hair got dry, brittle, and broke off!

    1. Lisa V. says:

I’ve been using for a year and a half. My hair is much thicker and healthier. My Mom who suffered from extreme thin hair also has had amazing results. Her hair is now long and her hair is not thin on top. We love this stuff!
