A Colorado man recently filed a new lawsuit against Monsanto Company, alleging its popular Roundup weed killer carries a substantial glyphosate cancer risk.
According to the lawsuit, the plaintiff, Neal N., was exposed to Roundup during regular usage of the weed killer product for nearly three decades, from 1990 through 2017. During this time, Neal used Roundup according to the instructions and followed the safety and precautionary warnings. None of these warnings indicated serious glyphosate cancer risk, he claims.
Unfortunately, Neal developed Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2016, which he alleges in his lawsuit was a direct result of his exposure to Roundup. Not only has the diagnosis caused Neal to experience physical injuries, pain, and suffering, he has also experienced substantial economic damages as well. Neal turned to litigation after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma diagnosis, filing his lawsuit on Dec. 22, 2017, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The glyphosate cancer risk lawsuit alleges multiple claims including design defect, failure to warn, negligence, and fraud. Neal’s wife, Mary N., also filed a claim for loss of consortium.
Neal’s lawsuit, along with many others like it, alleges that Monsanto has been aware of the serious glyphosate cancer risk linked with its Roundup products and yet the company still represents the use of Roundup is safe for consumers.
According to the lawsuit, Monsanto has used taglines that make Roundup appear far safer than it actually is, including phrases like “safer than table salt,” despite being aware of the substantial glyphosate cancer risk. In 1996, Monsanto was hit with a lawsuit by the New York Attorney General over these kinds of statements alleging that they were both deceptive and dangerous.
Background of Roundup Cancer
Monsanto’s weed killer Roundup has been a popular product for decades. Roundup’s active ingredient is glyphosate. Unfortunately, this ingredient has also been linked to a number of serious kinds of cancer including Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.
Consumers who are most at risk of suffering from Roundup exposure side effects are farm workers and home gardeners. A growing number of those exposed to Roundup have filed lawsuits against Monsanto alleging that they were diagnosed with cancer because of their use of and exposure to Roundup.
Knowledge of glyphosate cancer risk from Roundup has been available for decades. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began to suspect a connection between Roundup and cancer in the 1980s. A report published in March 2015 by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) also concluded that glyphosate exposure is linked to cancer.
Glyphosate Cancer Risk
Roundup exposure has allegedly caused a number of cancers in consumers such as:
- Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
- Leukemia
- Multiple Myeloma
- B-cell Lymphoma
- Bone Cancer
- Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer)
- Other Cancers
Filing a Lawsuit Over Glyphosate Cancer Risk
If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with cancer after Roundup use, you may be able to file a lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by glyphosate cancer risk or bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
The Glyphosate Cancer Risk Lawsuit is Case No. 4:17-cv-02921-CDP, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern Division of the Eastern District of Missouri.
If you or a loved one developed cancer after using Roundup as a farm worker or home gardener, you may have a legal claim. Legal migrant farm workers may also seek help. Learn more by filling out the form on this page for a FREE case evaluation.
