LG Dishwasher LED Control Panel Defect Class Action Lawsuit Overview:

  • Who: Mark Wheeler filed a class action lawsuit against LG Electronics USA, Inc.
  • Why: Wheeler claims LG knowingly sells some of its QuadWash-enabled dishwashers with defective LED control panels.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

LG Electronics USA knowingly sells certain dishwashers containing defective LED control panels, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Mark Wheeler claims some of LG’s QuadWash-enabled dishwashers are eventually rendered “inoperable” due to the alleged LED control panel defect.

Wheeler claims moisture is able to penetrate the LED control panels and damage the electronic parts within them on account of the defect.

The water damage eventually renders the dishwasher’s control panel “unresponsive” and makes it so that it can no longer be used to “commence a wash cycle as expected or intended,” the LG class action alleges.

Wheeler claims LG has known about the defect since at least 2015 due to receiving consumer complaints but yet has failed to either remedy the issue or disclose it to the public.

“Although LG has long known, or had reason to know, that Class Dishwashers’ Control Panels are Defective and are unfit for their ordinary and intended purpose and incapable of performing as warranted, LG failed to disclose and actively concealed this material fact from Plaintiffs and the Class,” the LG class action states.

LG Class Action Claims Replacement Dishwasher Part Also Likely Fail

Wheeler argues the only way for a consumer to be able to continue using the dishwasher is to replace the control panel with a “non-defective replacement component,” which will also “likewise fail shortly after installation.”

“Because LG repairs Class Dishwashers using defective Control Panels that are doomed to fail, its warranty offers little in the way of actual relief and fails of its essential purpose,” the LG class action states.

Further, Wheeler argues LG adds “insult to injury” by claiming the defect does not exist after its one-year “labor and parts” warranty ends, at which point he says the company declines to offer further coverage.

Wheeler claims LG is guilty of breach of express warranty and breach of implied warranty of merchantability and is in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act

Wheeler wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased one or more of an affected LG QuadWash-enabled dishwasher.

Plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting declaratory and injunctive relief along with compensatory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.

LG agreed to pay $1.5 million last year to resolve claims it sold defective refrigerators that failed to maintain the temperature level necessary to preserve perishables such as food and medicine.

Our dishwasher was purchased on February of 2022 model LDTS555S. The control panel has a crack which seems to not be safe to operate.

Hi, have a LG dishwasher that has control panel break after 2-3 years and now a year after that something related to motor . Pretty expensive for trash quality. Have spent half the price on repairing it and having to wash dishes for weeks while waiting for parts!

    1. Shannon Reaver says:

I purchased LG’s LDF5545ST in April 2017. The control panel stopped working this month. I paid around $900 for this dishwasher at HD and it is gently used as we are only a family of 3. I see a new control panel is over $200 not including installation, but why replace it if others are experiencing repeat failure? I would like to be added to your suit.

  3. Trevor says:

We have constant problems with binging and odd behaviour of the dishwasher panel. I replaced it once already, and from this thread sounds like it’s only a matter of time before the panel stops completely. Out of four appliances from LG, warranty replacement of the entire fridge (after many attempts to fix it), microwave replaced, the dishwasher always acting up and now their stove. Never will we buy LG again!!!

  4. Nancy Avery-McNeil says:

Our LG Quad 4 has cracked now twice. This dishwasher was expensive and I am very unhappy with this product. The first time it was like pulling teeth to get it fixed. I am not looking forward to getting it fixed by them again and going through the process.

  5. Kyle Kaurin says:

I also have a problem with the Lg LDP6797ST dishwasher control panel. it no longer turns on because it is cracked through where the power button is. I have a brand now replacement control panel that does turn on, but no buttons on the right side work, so the start button does not work.

  6. Marie olson says:

I have had problems with my lg dishwasher that I bought in late fall 2017 I had replaced the circuit panel, it started again this has been a problem since about a month after purchase. Please add me to class action lawsuit suit.

  7. Nicole Mock-McGuire says:

I purchased one the the LG LDF5545ST model in Nov 2018, installed in late Dec 2018. The control panel will do the countdown from 4 and not start or a cycle will start and cut out after 20 minutes. I looked online and see that is was a known problem with the control panel and moisture. I was upset that my dishwasher was of course out of the 1 year warranty when the issues started. I am also upset that I purchased a new dishwasher that really only worked well for around a year. I am looking to replace as last night I could not get it to start at all after fighting with it for 20 minutes. In my opinion this dishwasher that I use 3 times a week should not need to be replaced yet and since it is a known issue LG should repair or replace at their expense. I would like to be added to the lawsuit.

  8. David R. Toth says:

I have LDT5678BD dishwasher and have been having issues the last couple of weeks with the lights flashing and beeping sounds during cycles. Please add me to Class Action.

  9. Helena M Stubbe says:

I purchased LG dishwasher LDP6810BD and the interface panel has three crackers in it and at times I can not use it. It is only one year old . They blamed me for abusing it and that part is not covered under warranty. I wasted my money buying the extended warranty. Please add me to the list of action law suit.

  10. K James says:

Hello I purchased a LDF5545 dish washer and I am experiencing the same issues with the LED display. What are the next steps to pursue a case?

    1. Heather White says:

We have a LDT 5665ST we had the control panel replaced under warranty 1 time. the control panel is cracked again. When we open the door the steam gets into the cracks and it won’t work. After it dries out sometimes it will work. We would like to be added to the lawsuit as well.
