Sharp LCD TVDetails on how to file a claim for the LCD panel class action lawsuit settlement have finally been released. If you purchased a laptop, computer monitor or television with a flat-panel LCD display between January 1, 1999 and December 31, 2006 manufactured by Toshiba, LG, AU Optronics, Samsung, Sharp, Hitachi, Epson, Chimei, Chunghwa or HannStar, you may be eligible to receive at least $25 cash from the class action settlement.

The LCD monitor settlement will resolve a class action lawsuit, entitled In re: TFT-LCD (Flat Panel) Antitrust Litigation, that alleges the LCD manufacturers listed above engaged in a price-fixing conspiracy to fix, raise, maintain or stabilize the prices of TFT-LCD flat panels, resulting in consumers overpaying for TVs, laptops and computer monitors containing the panels. The Defendants deny any wrongdoing, but have agreed to pay a combined $1.1 billion class action lawsuit settlement to provide refunds to U.S. consumers.

The LCD class action settlement only covers consumers who purchased INDIRECTLY from these companies. “Indirectly” means that you purchased an LCD panel in a television, monitor or notebook computer from someone other than the manufacturer of that panel (such as at Best Buy, Amazon.com, etc.). The states covered under the LCD class action settlement include:

Arizona
Arkansas
California
Florida
Hawaii
Iowa
Kansas
Maine
Massachusetts
Michigan
Minnesota
Mississippi
Missouri
Nevada
New Mexico
New York
North Carolina
North Dakota
Rhode Island
South Dakota
Tennessee
Vermont
West Virginia
Wisconsin

To receive a cash refund from the LCD class action settlement, you must submit a claim form to the Settlement Administrator on or before December 6, 2012. Claim forms can be submitted online at www.LCDClass.com.

The amount of money you will receive from the settlement will be based on how many claims are filed as well as the number/type of LCD flat panel product you purchased, but the minimum amount you will receive is $25. A claim for the purchase of an LCD flat panel TV will be given twice the value as a claim for the purchase of a monitor or notebook computer.

Payments will be distributed after the Court grants final approval of the LCD panel settlement and any appeals are resolved. A Final Fairness Hearing is set for November 29, 2012.

I just read the Update on the LCD SETTLEMENT WEBSITE, and apparently on 7-12-13 the court/judge approved distribution and payments are supposed to go out this month for claims already submitted. According to the site.

  4. Angel says:

Well, I emailed and asked, they still are saying this “Payments will be distributed after the Court grants final approval to the new Settlements and after any appeals are resolved. If the Court approves the New Settlements after a hearing on November 29, 2012, there may be appeals. We don’t know how much time it could take to resolve any appeals that may be filed. There has not yet been a ruling on this hearing.

We are currently processing claims that have been/are being received. If we need any further information to process your claim we will contact you via mail.

The website will be updated as we receive further information. This is the most current, accurate information that we have at this time.” and I checked Pacer, there is no ruling on the November 29, 2012 hearing posted yet either, in fact no documents show filed since 10/12/12, no appeals showing filed either though so until the Judge gets to work and makes a ruling, no one gets a flipping dime….

Good article in Star Tribune in Minn. about the claim, did you know in the “Plan of Distribution” it says quote..” Although the $25 minimum is a reasonable estimate, the actual amount cannot be determined until all claims have been processed. A maximum payment amount of three times a claimant’s estimated money damages also will apply.”, it is on the site.
