Sharp LCD TVClass Members who filed claims for the LCD price-fixing settlement may finally receive checks in the mail as early as next week.

According to the LCD price-fixing settlement website, the claims audit and verification process has been completed and the court was scheduled to make a determination about whether to distribute the funds on Oct. 17. Details of the hearing have not yet been made public.

Although the LCD class action settlement website has not yet been updated, it has been reported that checks may go out as early as next week. More than 233,000 checks will reportedly be mailed to businesses and consumers in 24 states. Claimants are expected to receive $43.49 per laptop or monitor and $86.98 per television.

The LCD panel class action lawsuit was filed in 2006 following an investigation into allegations the world’s largest LCD manufacturers had conspired to fix the price of flat screen panels since 1999. Several companies have pleaded guilty and been convicted of criminal charges related to the antitrust allegations. The companies have reportedly paid more than $1 billion in fines.

The LCD class action lawsuits alleged consumers were overcharged for electronic devices with flat panels due to the price-fixing scheme. They were eventually consolidated in multidistrict litigation (MDL) titled In re: TFT-LCD (Flat Panel) Antitrust Litigation.

The companies named in the flat panel class action lawsuit include AU Optronics, Chi Mei Optoelectronics, Chunghwa Picture Tubes, HannStar Display Corp., Hitachi, LG, Samsung, Sharp and Toshiba. There have been a total of 10 LCD class action settlements that, when combined, are worth close to $1.1 billion.

Class Members of the LCD antitrust class action settlement include consumers in 24 states who purchased televisions, laptops and desktop computers with LCD screens between Jan. 1, 1999 and Dec. 31, 2006.

The LCD price-fixing settlement is not only the largest settlement of its kind in U.S. history, but it is also one of the most consumer-friendly settlements to date. The deadline to file a claim for the LCD class action settlement passed on Dec. 6, 2012.
