kids-capri-sun-1024x557Kraft Food Groups has joined the growing list of companies who have been accused of misleading customers by labeling its food products as all natural.

An all natural class action lawsuit was filed against Kraft after a plaintiff claimed that Capri Sun, made by Kraft, was not in fact an all natural as the label stated.

According to the all natural class action lawsuit, Capri Sun contains citric acid from GMO crops, which means the popular juice brand actually contains synthetic ingredients.

The Capri Sun all natural class action lawsuit stated that Kraft, “unlawfully, negligently, fraudulently, unfairly, misleading, and/or deceptively” used the all natural food label when their products contained synthetic citric acid.

While citric acid can be made from non-GMO sugar beets or corn, it is most likely made from genetically modified crops, the all natural class action lawsuit says.

Kraft has also been accused of misusing the all natural food label with their shredded fat free cheddar cheese. Although Kraft’s cheese were sold as a natural food, it has been alleged in another all natural class action lawsuit that the product uses artificial coloring.

Kraft argued that its all natural food label was meant to refer to the process by which their food products were made and not the complete lack of synthetic or artificial ingredients. They suggested it was more of a description than a claim about the ingredients.

The fat free cheddar cheese all natural class action lawsuit is for any consumer who purchased Kraft shredded fat free cheddar cheese because of the all natural food label and not because of brand loyalty or because it was fat free.

Both all natural class action lawsuits were filed in California.

All Natural Food Products

Many people purchase natural foods simply because of the all natural food label companies have put on their products’ labels. Foods labeled all natural are generally more expensive than “unnatural” foods and are commonly viewed as being healthier alternatives to synthetic ingredients.

However, many believe they were misled by companies like Kraft and that they purchased the more expensive and supposedly healthier option when in fact the ingredients in the food products were not as they believed.

Many companies such as Ben and Jerry’s have quietly removed the all natural food label and replaced it with something different to catch the consumers’ eyes.

The all natural class action lawsuit may be able to help consumers win compensation for the money they spent on the so-called “all natural food products.”

Did you purchase a food product because the label said it was “Natural,” “All Natural,” “100% Natural” or used a similar term?

Some food products labeled “Natural,” “All Natural,” or “100% Natural” are not, in fact, natural because they contain unnatural ingredients, such as artificial additives, synthetic vitamins, and/or chemical preservatives.
