Consumers across America are complaining their DuraPro toilet connector caused serious damage to their homes, due to substantial water leaks.
Complaints indicate that numerous customers had to have their walls torn and replaced due to the alleged water damage, with costs ranging from $1,100 to $7,000 in out of pocket expenses or insurance deductibles.
Interline Brands Inc. distributes the DuraPro toilet connector to thousands of consumers across the United States, all of which were allegedly manufactured in China.
The DuraPro toilet connector is allegedly made from inferior materials, or were defectively made to begin with.
Overview of DuraPro Toilet Connector Allegations
Due to the unexpected water damages, Interline Brands Inc. is facing a DuraPro toilet connector class action lawsuit. The plaintiffs allege the company knew these toilet connectors were defectively made, but failed to notify consumers.
The DuraPro toilet connector is a short hose, which goes from the bottom of the toilet to the valve to shut off the water. It connects to the base of the toilets with plastic coupling nuts, which is the very component causing all the alleged damage.
The plastic nuts have been reportedly cracking or fracturing, allowing water to spill out and cause damage.
Four plaintiffs are filing a DuraPro toilet connector class action lawsuit conjointly, claiming the toilet connectors either ruptured or broke:
- Pennsylvania plaintiff Jacquelyn D. Ajose: In her claim, Ajose discovered her DuraPro toilet connector failed on June 02, 2014. Ajose reportedly suffered out of pocket expenses, including paying her property insurance deductible.
- Colorado plaintiff Kathy Smith: Even though the device was installed in Smith’s home in 2009, the device eventually failed her on Aug. 06, 2014. Smith had to pay at least $10,000 in property damage, and $7,600 for her homeowner’s insurance deductible.
- Texas plaintiff Sharon Kurtz: Even though Kurtz had the DuraPro toilet connector installed in 2004, she still experienced device failure on Dec. 12, 2014. Kurtz had to pay $5,000 for her home insurance deductible, along with serious costs in out of pocket expenses.
- Arizona plaintiff Patricia Evett: Evett moved into a newly constructed home, which already had a DuraPro toilet connector on Dec. 23, 2007. However on March 06, 2015, the toilet connector reportedly fractured and allowed water to run freely throughout her home. Evett experienced severe out of pocket expenses, including paying $3,000 for her home insurance deductible.
According to the claims made in the DuraPro toilet connector class action lawsuit, the defective toilet connectors allowed for unrestricted flow water, leading to thousands of dollars in property damage.
Interline reportedly purchased the DuraPro toilet connector devices from China in 2002, and sold them throughout the county.
While Interline does not manufacturer the toilet connectors directly, using a third party company in China, the company is still responsible for warning consumers against potential defects.
The DuraPro Toilet Connector Class Action Lawsuit is Jacquelyn D. Ajose, et al. v. Interline Brands, Inc., Case No. 14-CV-1707, in the U.S. District Court of the Middle District of Tennessee.
UPDATE: On April 24, 2018, Interline Brands Inc. agreed to pay $16.5 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging the company’s DuraPro Toilet Connectors have a defective part that can lead to flooding, causing damage to homes.
