Road tollWhen driving on many toll roads throughout Delaware and surrounding states, it’s very common to use EZPass. EZPass is an automatic way to pass through the toll assessment stations throughout Delaware and have the money owed be deducted from an account.

However, a growing number of people allege that their Delaware toll violation notices are inaccurate or assess unreasonable fees.

Those drivers may even be able to participate in a class action lawsuit investigation. If you were assessed an excessive EZPass toll violation over the course of the past four years, you may be eligible to pursue legal action against the company.

Drivers pay tolls to move through certain highways. The EZPass system is often used to allow people to pass through the toll assessment stations more quickly. A Delaware toll violation may be assessed if a person does not have enough funds on their account to cover the toll that is due.

Automated toll fee collection is a way to easily and quickly pay toll fees without actually having to stop at the booth. A driver will avoid a Delaware toll violation by purchasing an account through a provider such as EZPass. A transponder is then affixed to the driver’s windshield and then this communicates with the system as the driver passes through the toll booth.

Drivers must add money to their toll collection accounts and the toll fee will then be removed from the account each time that the driver passes through a toll area.

A driver can be assessed a Delaware toll violation if they do not have sufficient money in their account. However, drivers now argue that their Delaware toll violation notices indicate much higher penalties than the base toll fee.

A growing number of class action lawsuits have been associated with problems alleged by drivers, including those who have received notice of a Delaware toll violation.

In some of these instances, the cost for the Delaware toll violation may be ten times as much as the actual toll cost for driving on the road that other drivers paid for with cash or if they had sufficient funds on their account.

If you have already been assessed an EZPass toll violation fee, you may be eligible to participate in a class action lawsuit investigation. Consumers are getting increasingly frustrated with receiving these notices and not being informed about the high penalties associated with having insufficient funds on the account.

Although the EZPass transponder and other similar services may be a seamless way to pay your toll, it could lead to more trouble if you are not careful enough to monitor the funds inside your account and if you are assessed a costly Delaware toll violation.

Reviewing past notices received regarding violations and insufficient funds in your account can help you identify whether or not exorbitant fees have been assessed against your account. If excessive fees were charged, customers can look into options to challenge them.

  1. Sara says:

Same as everyone else $1 toll ended up being $51 because of additional fees and no one there to collect my $1 . I’ve never even heard of this . In MD there’s no attendants so you get the billed mailed to you for the same amount as the actual toll and then if if don’t pay it it’s like a few dollars more . This is ridiculous and I won’t pay

  2. Hansby Joyce says:

I was sent a duplicate bill from Deldot. This $43.00 toll turn into $4350.68. With this being said my car needed a new engine for the months they were billing me for. I sent them the proof of the dates my car was inoperable and the estimate of the cost of repair. I have always paid my toll bill in a timely manner Waiting to hear back from Deldot now

  3. Paul says:

They are going to set me up with monthly payments to resolve my violations that I knew nothing about until I got a violation notice in the mail today . $405.47 in penalty’s for 6 Tolls amounting to $11.00 that I had no knowledge were even in violation until the notice appeared in my mail . Violations scattered over a period of 6 months . They yelled at me like I was a hardened criminal . So unprofessional.

  4. Dee says:

I got sent a bill for $64. They claim they notified me about a $4 charge but I never got it. When I asked for proof that I was notified they basically just told me to take their word that the charge is valid. They sent no proof that they ever invoiced me!

  5. natasha feldstein says:

Yup. I got a bill for three tolls that were only $1 tolls but I was being charged $54 for each one. Tried calling customer service at least three times, each time stayed on hold for close to an hour. I’m convinced that it was just a phone in an empty warehouse. It’s ridiculous.

  6. Dale Gomez says:

Yup, tolls from 2017, never got a notice, suddenly being assessed over $500 in fees for less than $30 in tolls.

  7. Dee says:

How do I join the class action lawsuit? I received a bill from a collections agency but I was never notified that I had a bill in the first place. This is from a violation four years ago! I’m sure that if I received a bill, I paid it! I think they’re either double-billing me or they never notified me in the first place.

  8. Bill says:

Same thing here. My wife went through a small part of a small state and never got a bill then a violation notice comes for $102 for a $2 toll. Delaware obviously has a problem and if they don’t reverse it I’ll definitely join a class action. Thier website sys they have $143 million in unpaid tolls but looking at the scam they’re running most of that is probably thier bogus toll scamming system

  9. Upset Citizen says:

I think it’s highway robbery I was just sent invoices from 2016 that I have already paid and now they sent them to me again requesting 380.50. They also sent it to some law firm. DELAWARE I UNDERSTAND YOUR STATE IS BROKE BUT DON’T TRY TO BREAK EVERYONE ELSE GEESH!

  10. Shawn Robinson says:

MD went through a new EZ transponder and jammed up a lot of accounts. My EZ pass was good until they switched up without informing us and a lot of Maryland residents EZ pass accounts were backed up at the time I traveled. I accumulated over a $100.00 of fees from $4.00. This is ridiculous. Highway robbery at its finest something must be done.
