Frontier-communicationsA class action lawsuit alleges that internet provider Frontier Communications deceptively advertised the cost of its services to new customers.

The complaint contends that, “Defendant represents to its consumers that there will be no installation charges, activation fees or other miscellaneous fees other than the advertised price of its service plans when this is in fact false.”

The Frontier Communications class action lawsuit asserts that Frontier advertises a low price for internet services, knowing consumers rely on that advertised price when choosing service providers.

That low price entices consumers to switch providers, after which Frontier hits them for a higher monthly charge as well as several fees, according to the complaint.

The class action contends that “the internet services were over seven times the advertised price.”

The false advertising class action alleges that Frontier Communications knows its initial pricing is deceptive, and conceals that knowledge from consumers. The complaint states that Frontier Communications does not provide the written terms and conditions to potential customers before they sign up.

The class action argues that the internet provider does this because it knows “many of the consumers would not have purchased or attempted to purchase these internet services” if Frontier Communications was honest in its initial pricing.

Plaintiff Dorothy Ayer states that in May of 2016 she purchased internet and a hard line telephone service from Frontier Communications.

The cost of the service plan was supposed to be $69 per month, with “no installation changes, activation fees, or other miscellaneous charges.”

However, Ayers asserts that her first bill from Frontier Communications in June was $426.55.

Ayers claims that she “felt ripped off and cheated,” and would not have contracted with Frontier Communications had she known the truth about their false and deceptive advertising.

The internet service false advertising lawsuit asserts that Frontier Communications violated the California False Advertising Act by its knowing and deliberate omissions to consumers about the pricing of its internet and telephone services.

In addition, the class action alleges that the company violated the California Unfair Business Practices Act through the same conduct.

According to the complaint, Frontier Communications’ “conduct is substantially injurious to consumers, offends public policy, and is immoral, unethical, oppressive, and unscrupulous as the gravity of the conduct outweighs any alleged benefits attributable to such conduct.”

The Frontier Communications deceptive advertising lawsuit seeks to represent a Class of all persons in the U.S. who purchased, or attempted to purchase, internet services from Frontier Communications, “and whose telephone or telephone service was advertised at a lower price than charged.”

The class action wants Frontier Communications to be required to notify all Class Members of its deceptive practices through corrective advertising. The complaint also requests damages, including punitive damages, for the Class, as well as an injunction stopping the company’s misleading advertising.

Ayer is represented by Todd M. Friedman and Adrian R. Bacon of the Law Offices of Todd M. Friedman, P.C.

I was told that an installer would be at my home by a certain time on a certain day. I had to miss work that day and he never showed up. I called and was so mad about missing a day’s work and getting nothing for it. Someone called me back and was prepared to offer me an awesome deal. Well, needless to say it was only lip service and I ended up getting down to the point of almost having my services turned off. We get worked out that day, but I had to write the company and after 7 pages naming names and dates, they apologized to me for my troubles. I would love to get in this one for sure.

I would like to join the fight against Frontier for their inability to provide me with the service that I requested for land line telephone and Internet. When I receive a call, the caller can not hear me but I can hear her. I return the call by using my mobile phone resulting in costing me more money. When I reported this problem to Frontierm, a repairman came, disconnect my house alarm system, which was connect to the phone line, and now my alarm system is not connected to the company’s monitoring service. I am still without phone service but continue paying monthly payments to Frontier for Internet and phone services.i am a dissatisfied Texas customer.

  3. Carol Eddy says:

Are they allowed to run credit checks on their customer’s before they will even consider letting them get them as an internet server?, they did that to me and also promised me a $ 100.00 gift card for sighning up with them and then, the day their installer was coming to install my internet for my wireless internet he contacted the office and told them i was to far out of Fairview for him to connect me, i live exactly 4 miles from there and they still refused to hook me up.

How do I file for this? Frontier Communications sucks. I signed up for service for Internet. Never received anything from them. Called and cancel and now I keep getting bills from them for 92.00 every month for the last 6 months They even kept my deposit of 55.00 that they required.

  5. Tim says:

This is my exact scenario. I signed up for the advertised $39.99 plan. My first bill was $295. When I contacted them, they tried to negotiate down to $250. I have refused payment and have refused to return equipment until the bill is corrected.

  6. Danette says:

Frontier Communications should be seriously investigated by the FCC. I filed a complaint with the FCC to no avail. However, I’m just a little fish in a huge communication pond. A few months ago, Frontier raised my monthly bill $10.00 without any notification. A few days ago I ran internet speed diagnostics, I am paying for 3.5.> download speed while only receiving 0.78332 and 1.5> for upload speed while only receiving 0.210088. If more unhappy customers would start complaining maybe the government would take action, but I’m not going to hold my breath. someone needs to hang them!

Just dissatisfied with Frontier period! Phone service sucks, got a landline, have to have it since cell service is not able to pick up back in the sticks, but the landline went out 2 times already this year, took 13 days to get any service after contacting the reps. numerous times, another time 7 days, and a tree is on the line, only thing holding up the tree, visible cable on top of the ground, reported it, but been like that for 2 yrs. The internet is slow slow slow. Just a mess. Don’t know how they going to fix anything from inside a Frontier truck.

I was charged $5.99 plus tax from November 7, 2014 through August 8, 2016 for Frontier Secure Backup and Sharing Program. It was only after my computer’s hard drive went bad that I discovered that none of my data was backed up as Frontier had said it was. Not only did I loose all my data, Frontier did not want to reimburse me for my payments for almost two years. I am still waiting for my credit since August!!!! A very troubled company.

Same here. Supposedly, all Verizon FiOS services would be the same with Frontier Communications but I have more issues with losing internet connection frequently and slower speeds.

Checked my Frontier account and my plan when from 100 mbps to 50 mbps when actually only getting 15-20 mbps (Verizon 45-55 mpbs) which isn’t half of what I used to get. Luckily our 2-year contract was done weeks later, so I contacted Frontier about their promotional 2-year contract upgrades to lower the bill but unfortuneately that wasn’t available for us and the only thing they can do is give us a $10 discount on our bill (which was $45 more than Verizon bill) so technically we would still be overpaying by $35.

Ugh!!! We are loyal Verizon customers for over 10 years and didn’t want the hassle of switching companies. Did a little research and it would be cheaper for us to switch our cable to Direct TV with our AT&T mobile account and getting our internet/home phone service with Time Warner/Charter (not a big fan but the lower price on premium service is promising). Crossing my fingers it will be better.
