Honda class action lawsuitA Florida couple has filed an asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit against Honda and other companies for the development of mesothelioma. The couple claims that the numerous defendants in their asbestos lawsuit each failed in their duty to protect their customers against their asbestos-containing products.

Plaintiffs Leonard and Susan S. claim in their asbestos lawsuit that Leonard worked in several alleged asbestos environments throughout his adult life.

Between the years of 1972 to 1979, Leonard reportedly worked as a laborer in renovating homes for his father, and had worked in the same job later between 1978 to 1979 for different clients. During that time, he also did his own auto repairs from the 1970s until 1984, during which time he was also exposed to asbestos. He repaired vehicles made by Honda, Nissan and Toyota, which allegedly contained asbestos-containing gaskets and friction products.

According to the asbestos lawsuit, Leonard was also exposed to asbestos while doing maintenance and repair work on the job for Rice Construction.

Leonard was diagnosed with mesothelioma in September, to which his physician attributed to the asbestos fibers he inhaled on the job site, according to the asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit. He alleges that the defendants failed to take proper preventative measures to protect their employees and contract workers.

For years, Leonard had been exposed to harmful asbestos fibers through working with harmful floor tiling, paint, and auto parts in his job, oblivious to the fact that he was being exposed.

Like many mesothelioma victims, he had inhaled the fibers that had caused him the fatal lung damage. Medical experts explain that due to the long development process of this disease, victims are only estimated to live for several years after diagnosis.

As of now, Leonard is receiving medical treatment for his disease. His wife claims that as a result, he can no longer live the same life he had before his diagnosis, and it has permanently compromised their marriage.

Leonard’s asbestos mesothelioma lawsuit alleges that the companies not only failed in their duty to protect him, they also violated federal asbestos regulations by not adequately containing the fibers.

For being allegedly responsible for manufacturing, selling, distributing, and marketing dangerous products, Leonard and Susan have filed this mesothelioma lawsuit against the manufacturers they claim are responsible for their predicament. The charges include negligence, concealing vital safety information, and misrepresentation of information.

The Asbestos Mesothelioma Lawsuit is Case No. 1:14-cv-00943, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina, Greensboro Division.

Overview of Mesothelioma Complications

Mesothelioma is an extremely rare form of lung cancer, and it is specifically caused by asbestos exposure. As rare as this condition it is, multiple scientific sources have stated that it is one of the most deadly lung cancers because it leaves patients with limited treatment options.

Asbestos mesothelioma takes decades before it manifests, and physicians often catch mesothelioma in a late stage of development. Prior to 1990, the general public remained generally oblivious to the fact that they exposed themselves to asbestos when side effects of this product were not a big concern.

According to asbestos experts, certain occupations are a higher risk for asbestos injuries than others, including shipyard workers, construction workers, miners, and other labor-related fields. It has been estimated that 100,000 people will die from mesothelioma after being exposed to it in shipyards, with another 100,000 people dying after working in asbestos mines or being exposed to asbestos products in their home.

The asbestos mesothelioma litigation is currently the longest-running mass tort in the history of the United States, naming over 600,000 plaintiffs and 6,000 defendants.
