Iraqi soldiers avoiding roadside IEDsIn the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, thousands of U.S. military members have suffered injuries due to a roadside bomb injury, in what is known as either an IED or EFP attack. Still others have died in these attacks.

If you have experienced an IED or EFP roadside bomb injury while serving in the U.S. military in Iraq or Afghanistan, or if a loved one has died from a roadside bomb injury, you may be able to seek compensation from the banks that facilitated these attacks. Of course, filing a lawsuit could never take away the pain and suffering caused by a roadside bomb injury, or bring a loved one back from the dead, but it can at least help to provide some kind of financial compensation.

Roadside Bomb Injury from IEDs and EFPs

Two types of roadside bombs, IEDs and EFPs, are some of the main weapons used against the U.S. in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Indeed, IEDs, or Improvised Explosive Devices, caused around 63 and 66 percent of coalition deaths in the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, respectively.

Although Explosively Formed Penetrators (EFPs) have not killed as many members of the U.S. military as their IED counterparts, they are considered substantially more lethal because of their power. EFP devices are capable of piercing armor, and can in some cases even travel over 100 yards.

Because of this, the New York Times has referred to EFPs as “the most lethal weapon American forces faced in Iraq.”

Why File a Roadside Bomb Injury Lawsuit?

The U.S. Department of Justice believes that Iran heavily contributed to the funding of terrorist groups in Iraq, including the funding of IEDs and EFPs, despite the sanctions that the U.S. had placed on Iran to prevent this very thing. The DOJ claims that Iran circumvented these sanctions by using foreign banking and money laundering practices through a number of international banks.

In this way, the DOJ says, billions of dollars were funneled to fund terrorist operations, including the IEDs and EFPs that have caused so many Americans to suffer from a devastating roadside bomb injury, or even death. Funding these kinds of operations is considered state sponsored terrorism.

Now, U.S. government authorities are investigating banks that may have been involved in this endeavor. Some foreign banks have already admitted to allegations that they collaborated with Iran, including HSBC of UK, BNP Paribas of France, and Commerzbank of Germany.

In some cases, this has resulted in banks paying hundreds of millions of dollars fines—a portion of which goes to a fund to compensate the victims and families of those affected by a roadside bomb injury.

Filing a Roadside Bomb Injury Lawsuit

IED and EFP attacks are responsible for causing roadside bomb injury or death for thousands of American soldiers.

If you have suffered from a roadside bomb injury in Iraq or Afghanistan as a member of the U.S. military, you may be able to file a terrorist attack lawsuit under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act. If a loved one was killed or injured due to a roadside bomb injury, you may also be eligible to pursue litigation.

If you or a loved one was injured or killed by an IED or EFP while fighting in the Iraq or Afghanistan wars, legal recourse is available. Get help now by filling out the form on this page for a FREE case evaluation.
