Eclos Skin Care Target of Class Action Lawsuit Investigation

By Jessica Tyner

Eclos skin careIn the anti-aging beauty product industry, what’s the difference between smart marketing and deceptive marketing? A lot of people want to look youthful, but sometimes the marketing banter tossed around by companies is beyond hyperbolic – it may constitute false advertising.

One company at the center of false advertising allegations is Freeman Beauty Labs, which produces a number of anti-aging products under the Eclos skin care line. A number of customers are complaining that Eclos products don’t work as described and that product statements might just qualify as deceptive marketing practices, which is illegal.

According to the packaging, these products contain “apple stem cells to help stimulate the skin’s cellular rejuvenation process.” The Eclos skin care line allegedly is made from a “rare Swiss apple” that’s been “clinically proven to help reduce wrinkles and improve skin texture in two weeks.” You should “use it every day for visibly improved skin” according to the directions, but some consumers say it doesn’t deliver. Guaranteeing a decrease in wrinkles in two weeks is a big claim.

Other products in the Eclos skin care line claim that the “rare Swiss apple” is responsible for minimizing “visible signs of aging and damage for more radiant skin.” These kinds of claims are subjective, both for the manufacturer and the consumer. When someone spends hard-earned money on an anti-wrinkle cream, they expect to get the results described when used as directed. For some people who tried Eclos products, that simply wasn’t the case. The product prices range from about $15-$30.

On other Eclos packaging, when mentioning the two-week wrinkle-decrease promises, this promise bolstered even more with the claim that “100% of 20 participants in a clinical study on Apple Stem Cells experienced a decrease in wrinkle depth after 28 days.”

Twenty people makes a very small study at best, and there’s no mention of these people’s effects after two weeks compared to four weeks. However, the “100 percent” wrinkle-reducing claim might just be enough to lure someone into trying out a product. But what happens if a consumer doesn’t see any decrease in wrinkles at the two-week mark? This is where the possibility for deceptive marketing comes into play. There’s a fine line between acceptable and deceptive marketing, and it’s possible that the Eclos line stepped over that line.

The Anti-Aging Products Being Targeted

The Eclos anti-aging skincare line is just one of many products being considered for a class action lawsuit. Others include:

  • Sunday Riley “Stimulant I” Perfecting Serum
  • 3 LAB Super “h” Serum
  • Emerge Labs Stem Cell Serum
  • Emerge Labs Skin Care Kit
  • Emerge Labs Protection Cream with SPF30
  • Emerge Labs Anti-Aging Cream Cleanser
  • Emerge Labs Organic Stem Cell Cream for Acne
  • Lather Swiss Apple Wrinkle Remedy
  • Dr. Brandt “Pores No More” Anti-Aging Mattifying Lotion

Each of these products potentially made anti-aging claims that aren’t backed by scientific evidence. While most consumers realize there’s no magic bullet for anti-aging, and aging is a natural process, it’s easy to feel “tricked” into buying a product because the manufacturer promises fantastic results. Being disappointed with a product is one thing. Feeling like deceptive marketing was used is quite another.

I also found the Eclos plant stem cell serum to be fabulous. I was getting those marionette lines on both sides of my mouth and after using the serum for just a week they completely disappeared. I know, amazing, right? But it’s true. I really wish I could get this stuff again, but i can’t find it. I can’t believe there’s a law suit targeting this great product! The Swiss apple stem cells they used are standardized and have born out their efficacy in many properly conducted research studies. The lawsuit is undoubtedly bogus.

  2. YVONNE GOODWIN says:

Please bring this product back. I’m 63 and have searched all of my life for something to make my inherently bad skin better. Eclos clay mask was my answer. I have tried others. None came even close to giving me the smoothness and even color that Eclos provided. This is a great product!

    1. Aida Strom says:

      AGREED

  3. Meri says:

I’ve used many other products and nothing compares to eclos. I have been hooked on it since I’ve bought it from a beauty store and never in my life have I seen my skin glow and it even closed up my big pores. Hands down it was the best product ever. I am so sad that it’s off the market, dumb complainers!

    1. QueenB says:

Ditto!! And the only thing I’ve found to come close is the MyChelle line, however, it’s 3-4 times the cost.
      Really miss Eclos!!??

    2. Debbie blair says:

Echols was the best product I have ever used and I’m upset I can’t get it anymore!!! I am 61 years old and when using Echols product my skin never looked better!!!! Please bring it BACK!!!!

  4. PJ says:

These products are literally the best I have ever had and I continue to look for something to replace them but can’t. I ordered as many as I could online after they went out of business and I am getting really low now! Has anyone found anything to replace this?

  5. Linda Davis says:

I am also shocked to see this!
I am a senior ( 72 yrs ) and “love” this product! I have seen a definite improvement in my skin after using the “apple stem cell” skin care products.

  6. Kathleen says:

I agree with these folks. Eclos products are excellent!!! People ask me all the time what products I use and I tell them eclos. I’m 58 years old and my face skin is tight and bright due to Eclos products. We can’t even get them any more and I’m running out of these effective products. I’ve used them over 5 years! This is utter nonsense to have a lawsuit for products that actually work! I’m sorry for freeman who produces this fine product and is being harassed out of business for a few complainers! Shame on them for ruining it for others!

  7. Meisels Marlene says:

This is the best facial cream I’ve ever found. I’m not using it for anti-aging, but I’ve never found such a high quality creme–especially plant based.

  8. Chrissy says:

This is bs this is the best product! I worked at Walgreens for 13 years and I have tried it all and by far this was the best ever hand down I’m so mad that I can’t believe that because a few people complain that they had to take the product on the shelf this is absolutely ludicrous what they shouldn’t done is Get 100 people to try the product and I guarantee at least 99% of people will love this product they need to come back I feel that ever since I’ve use this product I can’t live without it I need this product back in my life this is the only thing that has made my skin look for fawless I would love to start a petition to bring it back

  9. Teri says:

Wait…because a few people complained about being tricked …come on! We aren’t mature enough to deal with product advertisements?? The Eclos aqua balm must is fantastic. I can make my own decisions as to what I want to purchase, thank you. Gotta ruin it for everyone huh?

  10. Sherri says:

I’m so upset that the ecols plant cell products have been taken off the market my skin has never looked and felt better .I’m 54 and have tried a lot of different products these make your skin feel refreshed tightened smooth with no greasy heaviness this is wrong I want it back
