CyberDefender Software Class Action Lawsuit

By Mike Holer

CyberDefender Registry Cleaner

A consumer class action lawsuit claims CyberDefender Corp. sells bogus software that claims to clean viruses and speed up computers, but it “cleans” bogus errors and actually makes computers slow down and crash.

To prove their claims, the plaintiffs in the CyberDefender class action lawsuit hired independent cyber security experts to investigate CyberDefender’s software Registry Cleaner and Early Detection Center. CyberDefender offers consumers a free downloadable diagnostic test of their computers before purchasing Registry Cleaner and Early Detection Center, which the experts put to the test.

According to the class action lawsuit, the independent security experts found that “after a fresh installation of Windows XP on a clean virtual PC, never connected to the internet, Registry Cleaner detected over 151 errors on the pristine PC.” After the software removed the so-called errors identified in the scan, scans conducted during the next 24 hours did not display registry errors, even though registry errors were created during that period.

Furthermore, the CyberDefender class action lawsuit says, “some consumers have reported that CyberDefender software actually slows down their PC, which can cause crashes and attendant loss of data.” Furthermore, the class action says, CyberDefender offers a 30-day money-back guarantee if, for any reason, a customer is not completely satisfied, but it does not honor this promise.

“Despite CyberDefender’s express refund policies, CyberDefender’s telephone representatives have failed to process a material number of refund requests. Plaintiffs are informed and believe that inadequately supervised telephone representative have intermittently told customers that their money is being refunded yet never actually processed the refund, placed consumers on hold for extended periods, told customers that another representative sill send them an email that was not in fact sent, refused to allow the customer to speak with a supervisor, failed to process the full amount of the refund, and provided inaccurate information in connection with refund requests.”

The proposed CyberDefender class action lawsuit is brought on behalf of anyone in the United States and its territories who have purchased a CyberDefender product or service. It is seeking class certification, damages and injunctive relief for breach of express warranties and contract, violations of the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, violations of California’s Unfair Competition Law and False Advertising Law, and more.

Yea, talk about a scam. I have had to call them all the time, because they never really never fixed anything. I’m sorry so many people fell for their scheme. Once in a blue moon they would tentively fix any small problems I was having. I just can’t imagine how many people they scammed. I have had them for a year and don’t feel like I got my money’s worth.

I had purchased the $39.98 product two years ago and promtly cancelled. However, they continue to charage my account even after I complained to them and forbid them to make charges against my account.

I have also been duped by them. I want to join the lawsuit.

Feeling stupid for having wasted $40 on a useless program. Unbelievable that these people are allowed to continue this fraud. Also upset with Yahoo – a link from their toolbar led me to these scammers.

I would like to join this lawsuit. Back in Feb 2011, I charged $180 to my credit for a one-time fix from Cyberdefender. The charge was after they did a preliminary check and said it was a problem they could fix. After remotely accessing my laptop to “clean it up”, it got worse and finally locked. After they didn’t fix it, I thought it was my problem and accepted the loss. I have since read many comments from other users and found that I got screwed like everyone else. I experienced the same problems as most other complainants. I bought a new desktop computer, but still have the laptop that doesn’t work.

Even though I wasn’t in the sales department I do apologize for your experience, I can say that if you dealt with me I tried my best to help get ever customer a refund in full or to make sure that your problem was escalated AND handled. The company is actually a family company the lady that ran my dept was the niece of the CEO her brother (the nephew) was apart of HR, the HR managers husband is the CEOs wife, oh wow imagine the time I had working there specially once I started to voice my concern and opinion about how you guys were handled smh ofcourse

If ppl werent able to make folks by those ridiculous packages then they were told to simply get off the phone since you weren’t going to be able to be sold. They had 4 sales managers that dedicated their time ONLY towards the training of sales. Packages started from 389.99-249.99-179.99 and I even seen them go up too 600+ $s. Im so happy that their is a law suit against this company once and for all we all knew that it was coming soon

if you complained to much we would hav to send you to customer service who was usually a person overseas that you could barely understand anyway. By the time you spoke to customer service you were too feed up trying to understand them let alone complain to them about the service. The people in the Sales department were living lavish I know one girl who worked my department and transferred to sales. Promise she went from no car to having a BMW.

Cant disclose my name but i worked for the company and it is a scam, I hate that I even associated myself with the company for a year of my life. They treat their employees no better than they treat their customers. The way were were told to handle you guys is buy “pacifying the customers”
