Christian Dior SPF class action lawsuit overview:

  • Who: Alexis Slaten filed a class action lawsuit against Christian Dior Inc.
  • Why: Slaten claims Christian Dior falsely advertises that its cosmetic foundation products with SPF offer 24 hours of sun protection.
  • Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in California federal court.

Christian Dior falsely advertises its cosmetic foundation products with SPF as being able to offer 24 hours of sun protection, a new class action lawsuit alleges.

Plaintiff Alexis Slaten claims the Christian Dior foundation products — including its Dior Forever Foundation and the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation — are, in reality, only fully effective at protecting users from the sun for two hours after they are first applied.

Slaten argues that skincare products with SPF must be reapplied after two hours in order to “provide continued protection from the sun.”

“The products do not and cannot provide 24 hours of SPF protection as claimed. The products’ labels are therefore false, deceptive and/or misleading,” the Christian Dior class action claims.

The plaintiff wants to represent a nationwide class and California subclass of consumers who have purchased a Christian Dior cosmetic foundation product claiming to offer 24 hours of SPF sun protection since Jan. 27, 2019.

Christian Dior falsely advertises SPF ability in order to ‘compete’ with growing market for SPF cosmetic products, class action says

Christian Dior falsely advertises that its cosmetic foundation products with SPF can offer 24 hours of sun protection “in order to compete with a growing market for SPF cosmetic products,” the class action alleges.

“A reasonable consumer will believe the Products will provide all its benefits, including the SPF protection, for the advertised 24 hours,” the Christian Dior class action states.

Slaten claims Christian Dior is guilty of unjust enrichment, common law fraud, deceit and/or misrepresentation, and of violating California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act and False Advertising Law

The plaintiff is demanding a jury trial and requesting injunctive relief, along with an award of compensatory, statutory, punitive and treble damages for herself and all class members.

A similar class action lawsuit was filed against L’Oreal last month by a consumer arguing the company falsely advertises that certain of its cosmetic products offer 24 hours of sun protection
