BMW issued a recall for nearly 80,000 vehicles earlier this month over concerns their integrated brake system could malfunction, leading to braking issues.
The recall involves certain of the following models and model years:
- 2023: X1 xDrive28i
- 2023-2024: X7 xDrive40i, X7 M60i, XB7, XM, 740i, 740i xDrive, 760i xDrive, i7 eDrive50, i7 xDrive60, i7 M70
- 2024: X5 sDrive40i, X5 xDrive40i, X5 M60i, X5M, X5 xDrive50e, X6 xDrive40i, X6M60i, X6M, 750e xDrive, i5 eDrive40, i5 M60,530i, 530i xDrive, Rolls-Royce Spectre
BMW says it is concerned a malfunction with the vehicles’ integrated brake system could lead to a loss of power brake assist or cause their anti-lock brake and dynamic stability control systems to not function correctly, according to the recall notice.
“A loss of power brake assist can extend the distance required to stop the vehicle,” the BMW recall states. “Additionally, malfunctioning ABS and/or DSC systems can cause a loss of vehicle control.”
BMW dealers to replace integrated braking systems at no cost
BMW will remedy the issue by having its dealers replace the integrated braking system on the recalled vehicles free of charge, according to the recall. The automaker says it expects to mail owner notification letters April 5, 2024.
Vehicle owners who have more questions about the recall can contact BMW directly at (800) 525-7417 or Rolls-Royce at 877-877-3735.
BMW separately recalled 51 vehicles in March 2023 over concerns their front seat frames may not have been properly welded to the seat rails.

30 thoughts onBMW issues recall for nearly 80,000 vehicles due to potential brake malfunction
My brakes failed in a 2023X7 going 80 miles an hour on the highway fortunately it was at night and there was not much traffic. I was able to coast up an exit ramp and finally come to a stop. My ex seven 2024 was affected by the recall. And just had automatic breaking also on the highway again during a commute and came to a complete stop in the middle of rush-hour traffic.
We were rear ended today by a BMW. The driver said he had “assisted” driving on and the car started to slow down but then accelerated right into us.
I’m 9 months pregnant. 2024 BMW 540i brakes failed on two stop signs, luckily I was going slow and no one was hurt. Apparently there’s no remedy for this? Insane! I want to return the car.
We had an issue with our X7 in a crash. BMW has known about this issue for nearly two years. It’s time for a class action lawsuit. We need an attorney that will reach out to us and handle this.

THE BRAKES ON MY 2019 BMW FAILED AS I WAS DRIVING INTO OUR GARAGE. The car crashed into the side of the garage, took out a wall, and the car plunged 10 feet down a hill wheee it stopped between two trees. I don’t know why we weren’t killed. Damage to the garage in excess of $25,000. Car windshield, front bumper, and extensive paint damage.
I own a 2023: X1 xDrive28i and had an accident a few months ago. I was getting out of a parking lot and stopped at the stop sign. The car did not seem to stop on time and crashed into another car coming from the right. I was driving at 5 miles an hour and it was an awful crash. It hit the side my 13 year old daughter was sitting on. It was terrifying and I could not drive for a long time. I’ve had the car for almost a year now and have driven only 3000 miles because my daughter is traumatized to sit in it.
