Avastin eye floaters have been reported by patients across the country, alleging they suffered serious complications due to defective nature of the syringes.
Avastin eye floaters are allegedly caused by the silicone lubrication oils found on the syringes, which are coated to insure smooth transition when being injected into the eyes.
Avastin silicone eye floaters occur when the syringe lubricant goes into the eye along with the drug. This allegedly happens when the syringes are not properly prepared by pharmacists.
For the syringes to be able to safely treat eye diseases, Avastin must be prepared by compounding pharmacies that send the syringes to ophthalmologists for patient treatment. While the silicone oil provides a good lubricant, the material has a tendency to migrate from the needle’s components and into the Avastin medication.
It is recommended that Avastin injections be used as soon as possible after the needles are filled, otherwise the silicone oil may contaminate Avastin. If the silicone lubricant mixes with the drug, it could lead to Avastin eye floaters and a number of other complications.
If patients develop Avastin eye floaters, they should seek treatment as soon as possible. This condition appears similarly to air bubbles forming into the eyes, leading to serious eyesight complications including:
- Increased Intraocular Pressure
- Inflammation
- Infection
- Retinal Tearing
- Retinal Detachment
- Cataract Formation
- Glaucoma
- Reduced Pressure in Eyes
- Cornea Damage
- Vision Loss or Blindness
- Other Eyesight Complications
Overview of Avastin Eye Floaters Complications
Avastin was approved by the FDA on Nov. 14, 2014, to be a cancer treatment drug for ovarian, fallopian tube, and peritoneal cancer patients. This drug can also be used for metastatic colorectal cancer, because it can be used to prevent the growth of certain blood vessels that feed cancer.
According to the Macula Center, Avastin has the same cancer treatment effect when injected into the eye. It is important to note that when Avastin is used for certain eyesight cancers or conditions, it is an off label purpose; the injection needles are not always meant for eyeballs.
As mentioned before, the chances for Avastin eye floaters increases when the prepared syringes are not used immediately after preparation. The silicone oil allegedly causes Avastin eye floaters as the oil particles becoming trapped inside the eyes.
In addition, freezing the Avastin injections increases the risk of complications because the lubricant mixing does not properly go down. This is because the silicone lubricant and Avastin may interact, and may become dangerous for patients to use.
In complaints, many allege the eye complications patients suffered are from the syringe preparation and storage.
Due to the concerns related to Avastin eye floaters, the FDA recalled syringes from pharmacies suspected of improperly preparing them or storing them. The FDA stated that there were also chances of bacterial contamination, due to how they were stored and prepared.
Patients who developed Avastin eye floaters and other eyesight damages may be able to file legal action to seek compensation. Potential claimants should contact a lawyer, to determine eligibility for a Avastin eyesight lawsuit.
