Roundup and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Cancer Linked, Lawsuit AllegesA Louisiana woman recently filed a lawsuit against Monsanto Company, alleging the agricultural giant’s weedkiller Roundup and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma have a dangerous connection, which she alleges led to her diagnosis with the disease.

The plaintiff, Jeanine T., alleges she was regularly exposed to Monsanto’s weedkiller product Roundup. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2013—a diagnosis which she claims comes a direct and proximate result of her exposure to Roundup and its active ingredient glyphosate.

Jeanine turned to litigation against Monsanto, alleging that the company was aware of the cancer risk linked with its product, but failed to perform proper testing or give adequate warning about these risks. Instead, the lawsuit claims, Monsanto continued to advertise Roundup as safe.

Jeanine filed her Roundup and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma lawsuit on May 30, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including design defect, failure to warn, negligence, and several others.

Background of Roundup

Glyphosate (the active ingredient of Roundup) has been the most widely used herbicide in America since 2001. Since 2013, it’s been the most widely used through the entire world, with hundreds of millions of pounds of the weedkiller used annually.

Unfortunately, exposure to glyphosate has been associated with a number of serious risks, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Link Between Roundup and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma

It wasn’t until the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) published an evaluation of glyphosate and its link to these risks that Jeaninie says she first realized the product may have exposed her to the risk of cancer.

A growing number of plaintiffs like Jeanine are filing lawsuits against Monsanto, alleging that they were diagnosed with cancer as a result of exposure to Roundup and its active ingredient, glyphosate.

The connection between exposure to Roundup and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis, along with a number of other cancers, has become increasingly publicized over the years. The Environmental Protection Agency began to suspect a connection between Roundup and cancer early in the 1980s. A recent report published in March 2015 by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that glyphosate is linked with a number of types of cancer.

Because of these risks, several countries have responded by banning the sale of Roundup and other herbicides with the active ingredient glyphosate. Countries that have instituted some kind of glyphosate ban include the Netherlands, France, Bermuda, and Sri Lanka.

Filing a Roundup Monsanto Lawsuit

Lawsuits allege that Monsanto misrepresented the actual safety of its weed killer product, downplaying the risks when it was actually aware of the link between Roundup and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and other cancers.

If you are one of the countless people who use Roundup and have since been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma or another cancer, you may be able to file a Roundup Monsanto lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by Roundup-related cancer, or bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.

The Roundup and Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma Lawsuit is Case No. 4:18-cv-00815-JMB, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern Division of the Eastern District of Missouri.
