Exactech Optetrak Patients Report Pain After Knee Replacement SurgeryPatients have complained of pain after knee replacement after getting the Exactech Optetrak system implanted.

For patients who received an Exactech Optetrak knee replacement system, they had reportedly experienced pain after knee replacement surgery that exceeded what the product’s warning label led them to expect.

Patients who experienced pain after knee replacement surgery may be able to file legal action if the device failure may have occurred much earlier than what was predicted by the company. Early device failure complications have been associated with Exactech Optetrak models produced in 2011 and 2012, which required many patients to undergo revision surgery.

The Exactech Optetrak knee replacement system has been on the market since 1994, with the company producing newer models on a continuous basis. However, premature device failure has been reported with the Exactech Optetrak models manufactured in 2011 and 2012, which differed from the other versions by a single component feature.

These Exactech Optetrak models reportedly had a “finned” tibial tray component, which may not bind effectively with surgical cement. The tibial tray was reportedly prone to tibial loosening, which caused problems like fragmentation and wear of the polyethylene insert.

The tibial tray was also different in later Exactech Optetrak models produced in 2013. In these models, the company had used a “fit” tibial tray on the knee implants, which was supposed to resolve the problem of early device failure.

Overview of Exactech Optetrak Complications

Many patients who had the 2011 or 2012 models implanted and suffered pain after knee replacement surgery had to undergo revision surgery to resolve the device complications.

The FDA had reportedly begun receiving reports of pain after knee replacement surgery in 2011, with many cases requiring revision surgery. It is important to note that revision surgery is considered riskier than the initial procedure because the risk for infection is higher.

Patients who had the Exactech Optetrak implanted should be vigilant for any unusual pain after knee replacement surgery, and for other signs of possible complications including:

  • Knee Pain
  • Limited Range of Motion
  • Swelling
  • Limited Mobility
  • Instability while Walking or Standing

Exactech is one of several major manufacturers of knee replacement implants, which are recommended to thousands of patients who need a knee prosthetic. The Exactech Optetrak has been one of the company’s most popular models and has been produced in various models for over 20 years. However, the reports of pain after knee replacement surgery soon after later models of the device was implanted, has spurred major concern in the medical community.

Patients who had an Exactech Optetrak knee replacement model implanted may be able to file legal action against the company. Patients can potentially sure for various damages like medical compensation, loss of wages, and other expenses that were incurred in conjunction with the Exactech Optetrak knee replacement system.

Exactech and other manufacturers must disclose potential device complications associated with their devices, so that patients can make an informed decision about their implant surgery.
