Roundup cancer Monsanto wrongful death lawsuitMonsanto Company faces a new Roundup wrongful death lawsuit from a grieving widow claiming the popular weedkiller caused the death of her husband. According to the Roundup wrongful death lawsuit, her husband had used the weedkiller for many years and allegedly developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) in result.

Louisiana plaintiff Mary K. is filing this Roundup wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of her late husband, Robert K. who had regularly used Roundup up until his death. Mary alleges that due to regular exposure throughout his adult life, Robert had developed non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma due to the chemical inhalation.

Robert had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on Aug. 26, 2015, and later died from the condition. According to the Roundup wrongful death lawsuit, Robert had began using the weedkiller in 1977 and continued to do so until 2015 on the farmland he and Mary owned.

From 1977 to 1990, Robert and Mary had grown soybeans, rice, millet, and wheat. The couple says they used Roundup to minimize the weeds. Robert had sprayed Roundup throughout his property, including the pastures, fence rows, and outbuildings from April through September twice a month per year.

Overview of Roundup Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The Roundup wrongful death lawsuit alleges that in direct result of this regular exposure, Robert ultimately died from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma on July 6, 2016.

During all times relevant, Robert had used the product according to product instructions and did not deviate from the product’s intended use. Mary alleges there was no mention of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma or risk of other forms of cancer development on Roundup’s label, nor did the company provide any form of disclosure.

It has been alleged that Monsanto Company knew of their product’s link to cancer for years, as the main ingredient of Roundup has been on the EPA’s radar since the 1980s. While the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) suspected glyphosate risk for decades, the component glyphosate was not classified as a carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) until March 2015.

In addition, there was a study published in the Occupational and Environmental Medicine journal stating that glyphosate and certain other pesticides were “potentially carcinogenic” and was “associated with increased NHL [non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma] incidence.”

Other studies have been conducted in Sweden and Canada, with researchers beginning their investigations after discovering a significantly higher number of farmers had been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Even though this information is vital for public safety, Monsanto Company allegedly failed to include these warnings on the Roundup label.

Consumers from across the country are filing legal action against Monsanto after allegedly developing cancer from Roundup. The diseases indicated to be linked to Roundup exposure include but are not limited to:

  • Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
  • Leukemia
  • Multiple Myeloma
  • B-cell Lymphoma
  • Bone Cancer
  • Kidney Cancer
  • Skin Tumors
  • Pancreatic Islet Cell Tumors

Mary claims that Robert never would have used Roundup if he had known the risk of acquiring non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma or other cancers. Mary is filing this Roundup wrongful death lawsuit seeking multiple damages of negligence and failure to warn.

This Roundup Wrongful Death Lawsuit is Case No. 2:17-cv-00863, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.
