vaginal mesh lawsuitThe vaginal mesh and bladder sling manufacturer Boston Scientific has agreed to pay $119 million to settle nearly 3,000 lawsuits alleging the manufacturer’s product caused serious internal complications. The transvaginal mesh lawsuit settlement will resolve the first large group of litigation against Boston Scientific.

The company is facing 20,000 different surgical mesh lawsuits.

Women filing vaginal mesh lawsuits allege the medical device implanted to help treat pelvic organ prolapse caused severe side effects, including mesh erosion into the vagina, infections, organ injuries, and vaginal scarring. In most cases, the serious vaginal mesh complications required plaintiffs to have the pelvic mesh surgically removed.

Boston Scientific is one of the leading manufacturers of bladder mesh slings. The company has been named in many state and federal transvaginal mesh lawsuits that resulted in multimillion-dollar verdicts. Last year, the medical device manufacturer faced a lawsuit in Texas that awarded the plaintiff $35 million. After initially appealing that decision, the bladder mesh company now indicates it has settled the case as part of the recent $119 million settlement.

Transvaginal Mesh Problems

Transvaginal mesh and bladder slings were marketed as a discrete treatment for women who suffer from pelvic organ prolapse, a condition that may occur after childbirth, menopause or hysterectomy. However, tens of thousands of women have reported the bladder sling product that was supposed to help improve their quality of life instead resulted in extremely painful side effects, often requiring surgical removal.

Some additional vaginal mesh complications include:

  • Pain during sexual intercourse
  • Bladder and vaginal infections
  • Perforated bladder, bowel and blood vessels
  • Multiple occurrences of pelvic organ prolapse
  • Urinary problems

Women who claim they have suffered multiple internal injuries as a result of a bladder sling implantation are seeking financial compensation from product manufacturers for their pain and suffering.

Vaginal Mesh Lawsuits

The number of bladder sling lawsuits being filed across the U.S. continues to rise. Women and families allege it was reckless of manufacturers to mislead patients with claims of product effectiveness and safety. Recent reports indicate thousands of vaginal mesh lawsuits have been filed against the top manufacturers of bladder mesh slings including Ethicon, Bard Avaulta, AMS, Boston Scientific, Cook Medical, Coloplast, and Neomedic.

Transvaginal mesh attorneys are actively seeking women, spouses and families who have suffered from bladder sling complications and want to be compensated. Settlements may result in thousands or even hundreds of thousands of dollars for victims. This financial compensation may help families recover from medical bills, pain and suffering, and missed work.

Spouses may file as co-plaintiffs in vaginal mesh lawsuits and sue for loss of consortium, meaning loss of sexual intimacy, which could increase the settlement award. Families who lost a loved one due to transvaginal mesh complications, including infections and organ injuries, may also file a wrongful death lawsuit that could lead to millions in compensation.

Recent favorable vaginal mesh lawsuit outcomes that have awarded women millions of dollars in financial compensation may help encourage other women who want to join a vaginal mesh class action lawsuit.
