Focus on a blood bag in hospital wardEliquis is an anticoagulant that was introduced to the market in 2012. Its purpose was to prevent blood clots in patients undergoing certain surgeries and to prevent stroke for individuals with atrial fibrillation. However, since its recent introduction, many individuals have suffered severe internal bleeding side effects that were allegedly caused by Eliquis.

Eliquis Side Effects: Internal Bleeding

Eliquis was the third Factor Xa inhibitor that has been manufactured in the past several years. It was designed to be an alternative to warfarin, the former leading anticoagulant that had been widely used for decades. Despite its consistent use, warfarin required users to go on a strict diet and monitor their blood regularly. Eliquis and other new blood thinners, such as Pradaxa and Xarelto, offered a treatment that did not require a diet change or blood monitoring.

Although these changes seemed promising, thousands of adverse internal bleeding cases were reported following Factor Xa inhibitor use. They may be considered to be one of the most dangerous drugs due to the large number of internal bleeding cases reported to the FDA alone. However, it has been suggested that only 10 percent of all adverse cases are actually reported to the FDA.

The primary danger with Eliquis is the lack of antidote. While some warfarin patients experienced internal bleeding, there was an antidote that could be used to reduce damage and fatality. There is no such method of stopping Eliquis bleeding side effects.

Eliquis side effects can involve different kinds of internal bleeding including bleeding on the brain, intestinal bleeding, kidney bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, as well as general uncontrolled bleeding. Some patients have allegedly died from Eliquis internal bleeding.

Eliquis Lawsuits

As a result of these dangerous and harmful internal bleeding cases, thousands of individuals have chosen to file Eliquis lawsuits. Eliquis lawsuits have accused Pfizer and Bristol-Meyers Squibb of failing to warn against severe internal bleeding side effects. Other claims may involve the fact that a drug was released onto the market without proper safety measures in place.

Xarelto and Pradaxa are also involved in similar lawsuit claims as they also do not have antidote for internal bleeding situations.

Wrongful death Eliquis lawsuits may be filed on behalf of individuals who died from internal bleeding complications. Already, Factor Xa inhibitor drug manufacturers have paid hundreds of millions of dollars in settlements to victims of adverse side effects as compensation for the pain and suffering caused as well as for hospital bills and other treatment costs. An Eliquis class action lawsuit investigation is currently underway.
