As many Top Class Actions viewers have discovered, submitting claims for class action settlements can result in HUGE payouts. In fact, one viewer recently reported that she received $11,890 from the Verdejo v. Vanguard Piping Systems class action settlement:
According to the class action lawsuit, certain Viega Brass Fittings are defective and of poor quality. The plaintiffs alleged that the pipe fittings were prone to failure. They claimed that the alleged pipe fitting defect forced them to replace the piping prematurely and repair property damage caused by the pipe failure. The defendant has denied the allegations but agreed to settle the class action lawsuit to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.
The Viega piping class action settlement, which received final approval on Sept. 17, 2014, provides significant benefits to eligible Class Members, including the establishment of a limited warranty for certain failures of Viega Brass Fittings, payment of costs for repair/replacement of the allegedly defective pipe fittings, and $250 cash payments to members of the Useful Life Subclass.
Class Members of the Viega Brass Fittings settlement include: “All Persons that own or have owned buildings, homes, residences or any other structures located in the United States that contain or have ever contained Viega Brass Fittings.”
If you have experienced Viega pipe failure, or if you experience pipe failure in the future, you may still be eligible to file a claim for the class action settlement. Viega has agreed to pay claimants for their reasonable costs and expenses related to eligible failures that have not already been reimbursed and that fall within the limited warranty. The deadline for claims accruing prior to July 10, 2014 has already passed. However, the filing deadline for claims accruing on or after July 10, 2014 is 180 days from the date of accrual. 4 thoughts onVanguard, Viega Piping Class Action Settlement Checks Arriving
In July 2016 extensive damage to my home was discovered because of a leak in Pex pipe that had been installed in 2006. Having assumed that the pipe was CPI, I immediately contacted NIBCO only to find that the inscriptions on the pipe did not match theirs. I discovered today (4/8/17) that some of the pipe that was removed has the Vanguard label on it, but the salvaged pipe is in pieces. Repairs have still not been completed because of difficulty scheduling a carpenter. I need to know if I am eligible for any compensation since my claim would not be within the 180 day limit.
Thanks.
Eleanor Dawson
