Philips Sonicare AirFlossUPDATE 1: Details on how to file a claim for the Philips Sonicare AirFloss Class Action Settlement are up!

UPDATE 2:  Viewers of Top Class Actions have reported that they have received their settlement checks in the mail!

A California federal judge has preliminarily approved a class action lawsuit settlement between Philips Oral Healthcare Inc. and consumers who say they were tricked into buying Philips Sonicare AirFloss plaque remover based on deceptive ads. Consumers who purchased Sonicare AirFloss will receive vouchers valued at $33, $23 and $7 under the class action settlement deal.

The AirFloss settlement will resolve allegations that Philips misled consumers into believing the plaque removal product would work just as well as using traditional dental floss. Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit claimed the marketing for Sonicare AirFloss was unethical because it induced consumers into paying more than $100 for a product that did not adequately remove plaque from teeth while dental floss – which is proven to remove plaque – costs less than $5.

Philips argued that the AirFloss product, which uses compressed air and mouthwash or water to knock plaque loose from teeth, was never meant to substitute traditional dental floss. U.S. District Judge Marilyn L. Huff rejected that argument in December, saying that marketing statements “strongly suggest that consumers should floss more often; and a reasonable consumer could believe that they can remedy that problem by purchasing the AirFloss.”

Class Members of the Sonicare AirFloss class action settlement include all California residents who purchased the product in California between January 1, 2011 and June 24, 2013. Class Members can claim a $33 voucher if they can provide proof they purchased an AirFloss 2-pack (up to a maximum of 2 vouchers), and a $23 voucher if they can prove they purchased a single-pack AirFloss (limit one voucher).

Customers who cannot provide proof of purchase can claim a $7 voucher.

Notices of the Sonicare AirFloss settlement will be sent out via mail, email and in newspaper publications, according to a motion filed July 11. The notice will contain a link to the settlement website, which will provide instructions on how to file a claim.

I’ve recently purchased ( bought them on april 18th,2013 at Walgreens in Epping NH 03848) four (4) of these “PHILLIPS SONICARE AirFloss” dental products,one(1) for myself and one (1) each for my three (3) kids ages 14, 12 & 10 .I’m really upset with “PHILLIPS” Co! i’ve always bought there products including there electric toothbrushes. But i can say this much by recently just basically throwing all this money down the drain on what I thought would of been a better way to get, more efficient flossing results. Ive lost my faith in Phillips i can say that for sure, & will DEFF 2nd guess my next oral care purchase.deff,by looking more into the products reviews etc.
    Thank you,
