cymbalta stevens johnson syndromeEli Lilly is accused in a lawsuit of failing to provide warnings that using Cymbalta could result in serious withdrawal symptoms.

According to the Cymbalta withdrawal lawsuit, Alabama plaintiff Randy M.’s use of the drug and consequent injuries were the result of Eli Lilly’s failure to disclose the risks relating to stopping Cymbalta.

Randy, who was prescribed Cymbalta in August 2011 to treat fibromyalgia, alleges Eli Lilly knew, or should have known, of the significantly increased risk of Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms, including their severity and duration. Yet the company failed to adequately warn about those risks.

Randy claims that he suffered debilitating withdrawal symptoms including hallucinations, depression, brain zaps, blurred vision, insomnia, anxiety, vomiting, muscle twitches, and stomach pain as a result of attempting to stop Cymbalta in November 2011.

Cymbalta Withdrawal Symptoms

Cymbalta’s withdrawal symptoms include headaches, dizziness, nausea, fatigue, diarrhea, vomiting, irritability, nightmares, insomnia, anxiety, sensory disturbance, electric shock sensations, seizures, and vertigo.

When users try to stop taking Cymbalta, the side effects can reportedly be severe enough to force them to start taking Cymbalta again — not to treat their underlying conditions, but simply to stop the withdrawal symptoms. Users thus allegedly become dependent on Cymbalta and Eli Lilly financially benefits by having physically dependent long-term users of Cymbalta.

The Cymbalta withdrawal lawsuit is seeking compensatory and statutory damages, attorneys’ fees and costs, and punitive damages for Eli Lilly’s alleged failure to provide proper warnings regarding the true frequency, severity, and duration of Cymbalta withdrawal symptoms.

The Cymbalta Withdrawal Lawsuit is Case No. 3:14-cv-01135-WC, in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama, Eastern Division.
