Lamps Plus settlement money

The Lamps Plus ZIP code settlement resolves a 2008 class action lawsuit accusing the store of violating California law by asking for and collecting ZIP codes from customers during credit card transactions. Plaintiff James Fogelstrom alleged this practice violated the Song-Beverly Act, California’s Unfair Competition Law, and was an invasion of privacy.

Lamps Plus denied any wrong doing but agreed to provide $10 gift cards to eligible Class Members to resolve the litigation. Class Members of the Lamps Plus settlement included “all persons from whom Lamps Plus requested and recorded a ZIP code but not a telephone number, address, or email address in connection with a credit card purchase transaction in California between Nov. 9, 2005 and Jan. 8, 2014.”

Approximately 170,000 consumers were eligible to claim a gift card from the Lamps Plus class action settlement, according to Settlement Administrator Gilardi & Co LLC.

The deadline to file a claim was April 21, 2014. [See our claim filing instructions here] The class action settlement awards were mailed or emailed on Sept. 19.
