Pradaxa lawsuitNumerous patients across the United States have reported Pradaxa internal bleeding problems soon after being prescribed the anticoagulant.

This new generation anticoagulant had been the first drug to be approved for this treatment purpose since Warfarin in the 1950s.

Pradaxa was approved by the FDA in 2010, and proved to be a lucrative release for Boehringer Ingelheim. This drug is often prescribed to patients suffering from atrial fibrillation, and are at a higher risk for stroke or other blood clot attacks.

Pradaxa and other anticoagulants work by inhibiting the body’s natural clotting ability, which improves the body’s circulation process.

However this also prevents the body from recovering from casual internal bleeding problems, which require emergency intervention.

Patients who have used Pradaxa, or other new generation anticoagulants, have reported serious uncontrollable internal bleeding injuries.

The Pradaxa internal bleeding problems reported by patients include:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Abdominal Swelling
  • Chest Pain
  • Blood in Stool
  • Blood in Urine
  • Blood in Vomit
  • Blood in Vagina
  • Color Changes in Skin
  • Color Changes in Stool

Even though Pradaxa internal bleeding problems had been reported since its release in 2010, that did not stop other pharmaceutical companies from trying their hand in the anticoagulant market.

Overview of Pradaxa Internal Bleeding Concerns

Each of the new generation anticoagulants were marketed to be more efficient and fast acting than Warfarin, and are prescribed in a single dose. Warfarin patients have to frequently consult their doctors for dose adjustments, making the convenience of Pradaxa an attractive prospect for patients.

At this time, only Warfarin has a widely available bleeding antidote in the case of internal bleeding. While Boehringer Ingelheim has recently released a Pradaxa reversal agent, it is only available for emergency intervention of Pradaxa internal bleeding problems.

If not treated in time, these Pradaxa bleeding complications can be potentially fatal.

According to recent studies, there have been 260 deaths officially linked to Pradaxa bleeding complications.

Even though Pradaxa internal bleeding problems can be potentially fatal, Boehringer Ingelheim allegedly failed to disclose this information on the drug’s warning label.

It was not until December 2011, the FDA sent a public safety warning regarding the dangers surrounding Pradaxa internal bleeding problems.

The agency stated that Pradaxa and new generation anticoagulants could be dangerous to consumers, and other treatment options should be considered.

Patients who were injured by Pradaxa internal bleeding problems may be able to file legal action against Boehringer Ingelheim, for failing to warn them against bleeding complications. Potential claimants should contact a specialized lawyer, to determine their eligibility for a Pradaxa lawsuit.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
