AndroGel lawsuitA testosterone product lawsuit was filed by an Iowa man who alleges he suffered multiple heart attacks after taking AndroGel.

The testosterone side effects lawsuit filed by plaintiff Ronald Dewey cites several peer-reviewed medical studies that showed an increased risk of blood clot-related injuries in men taking various testosterone-based therapies, including AndroGel. According to these studies, men taking drugs like AndroGel experienced an increased risk of blood clots, causing a host of damaging medical problems including stroke, pulmonary embolism, deep vein thrombosis — and certain types of heart attack. Included were studies published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association, or JAMA.

The testosterone gel lawsuit further alleges that not only are testosterone-replacement therapy dangerous, but that manufacturers are actively over-promoting them despite the risks. To support this allegation, the testosterone lawsuit cites another JAMA article that found as many as a quarter of men taking testosterone replacement drugs never had their testosterone levels directly tested, instead relying on vague symptoms like “fatigue” and “lack of energy,” to make the decision to start treatment with products like AndroGel. The study points to aggressive marketing both directly to patients and to health care providers.

The low-t drug lawsuits over AndroGel and other testosterone drugs have taken the form of a multidistrict litigation or MDL. MDLs are a type of group lawsuit, similar in some ways to class action lawsuits. In both class action lawsuits and MDLs, a group of plaintiffs allege that they have suffered similar harm at the hands of the same defendant. Group lawsuits like class action lawsuits and MDLs are designed to help streamline the legal process by converting tens, hundreds, or even thousands, of individual suits into a single coordinated legal action.

This AndroGel Lawsuit is titled Ronald Dewey, et al., v. AbbVie Inc., et al., Case No. 14-cv-1748, filed within the MDL In re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2245, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.

In general, AndroGel heart attack lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
