The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a number of refund payments in August.

LifeLock FTC Refund Payments

The FTC is sending 215,403 LifeLock customers PayPal payments thanks to a 2015 settlement.

LifeLock allegedly failed to set up and maintain a comprehensive security program to protect customer data, falsely advertised that it protected such data using the same protocols as financial institutions, and falsely claimed to provide “24/7/365” alerts when it received indication one of its customers’ identities was being used.

The FTC sent refund checks to more than a million people in October 2019. The current round of payments is being sent to those who did not cash their check and have a valid email address on file.

Refund recipients have 30 days to accept the payment.

Those who do not have a PayPal account and would prefer to receive a check, or those who have questions, should contact administrator Rust Consulting at 1-866-898-5106.

Position Gurus Refund Payments

The FTC is issuing payments worth a total of more than $1.5 million to more than 3,000 individuals deceived into buying web-based marketing products and services that turned out to be worthless.

Position Gurus LLC and Top Shelf Ecommerce LLC allegedly targeted people who wanted to start online retail businesses, according to the FTC. The companies allegedly claimed their services would attract customers to new online stores, thereby increasing sales.

Checks must be cashed within 90 days.

Those with questions about this refund should contact administrator JND Legal Administration at 888-906-0551.

Willow Curve FTC Refunds

Refund payments are on the way to more than 23,000 people who purchased Willow Curve.

Consumers used the device to apply light at the site of their pain.

The FTC claimed the defendants called the product a “smart” device “clinically proven” to relieve pain and inflammation in those suffering from ailments such as rheumatoid arthritis, nerve damage, and other conditions.

Consumers are receiving a refund thanks to an FTC order that settled charges of deceptive advertising claims against the product’s sellers, Physicians Technology LLC and Willow Labs LLC, as well as the companies’ owners, Dr. Ronald Shapiro and David Sutton.

Checks must be cashed within 90 days.

Questions may be directed to Analytics Consulting at 855-479-2054.

Vast Tech FTC Refunds

Victims of a tech support scan will be receiving a second round of refund payments.

Vast Tech Support LLC and OMG Tech Help LLC allegedly used free security scanning software trials to make people think they were experiencing problems with their computers, then pressured them to purchase tech support products and services, according to the FTC.

The first round of refunds was sent out in October 2020. However, because money remains in the fund, an additional $4.2 million is being sent to people who accepted the first payment.

Those who receive a check should cash it within 90 days. Those receiving a PayPal payment have 30 days to accept it.

Those with questions should contact Rust Consulting at 1-800-865-3878.

NeuroMetrix (Quell) Refund Payments

More than 16,000 consumers who purchased pain-relief device Quell will be receiving refunds thanks to a settlement between the FTC and product maker NeuroMetrix Inc.

NeuroMetrix allegedly marketed Quell as “FDA cleared” and “clinically proven” as a means of pain relief for those experiencing chronic pain, according to the FTC. However, the company allegedly lacked scientific evidence supporting this claim.

An initial round of refund payments went out in September 2020 to more than 70,000 people. In this round, the FTC is mailing checks to people who did not accept their PayPal payment and have a valid mailing address on file.

Checks must be cashed within 60 days.

Questions regarding this refund may be directed to Rust Consulting at 866-403-6545.

Online Trading Academy FTC Refunds

The FTC is issuing refund checks worth a total of more than $5.4 million to 31,144 consumers who purchased an investment training scheme from Online Trading Academy.

Allegedly, Online Trading Academy misleadingly claimed anyone could use its “strategy” to make money from trading in financial markets in any market condition.

In addition, Online Trading Academy’s “instructors,” who were actually salespeople working on commission, often represented themselves as being successful traders who had gained their wealth using Online Trading Academy’s strategy.

Checks must be cashed within 90 days.

Anyone with questions regarding these refunds should contact administrator Epiq Systems at 855-535-1840.

Advertising Strategies Refund Payments

Some consumers who were deceived in an alleged business opportunity fraud will be receiving a third round of refunds.

The defendants, operating under names such as Building Money, Prime Cash, Wyze Money, and Titan Income, allegedly telemarketed fraudulent online investment opportunities, according to the FTC.

The first and second rounds of checks went out in March 2019 and June 2020, respectively. However, because there is still money in the fund, the FTC is sending out a third round of payments to 3,200 people who cashed their previous check and paid the defendants more than $1,000.

Those who receive a check should cash it within 90 days.

BlueHippo FTC Refunds

More than 4,500 people who lost money to a scheme allegedly offering to help them finance computers and other electronics will be receiving refunds from the FTC.

The commission sued BlueHippo in 2008, alleging the company promised to finance the products, collected consumers’ money, then failed not only to provide the computers but also did not disclose the terms of its refund policy.

However, even after agreeing to a settlement, the company allegedly continued these practices. The FTC sued again and won.

Checks must be cashed within 90 days.

Questions about these refunds should be directed to Analytics Consulting, 855-558-1233.

Suboxone Settlement Payments

The FTC is issuing payments worth a combined $59 million to 51,875 people allegedly overcharged for Soboxone Film, used to treat opioid addiction.

The companies responsible for the prescription drug allegedly violated antitrust laws by preventing people from being able to choose lower-priced generic versions of Suboxone, according to the FTC.

Payments are being issued to people who were prescribed Suboxone Film and filed a valid claim.

Claimants are receiving payments of $35.61 for each month they were prescribed the drug between March 1, 2013, and Feb. 28, 2019.

Those who receive a prepaid card may check their balance or replace the card by calling Mastercard at 1-888-371-2109.

Those who receive a check should cash it within 90 days.
