Individuals who file a Blue Cross Blue Shield settlement claim form may be eligible to take part in a $2.67 billion BCBS class action settlement providing financial and injunctive relief to certain consumers who were covered by BCBS health insurance or administrative services plans.
The Class includes anyone who was covered by certain BCBS health insurance or administrative services plans between February 2007 and October 2020.
The Class Period for individuals and insured groups is from Feb. 7, 2008, through Oct. 16, while the Class Period for self-funded accounts is from Sept. 1, 2015, through Oct. 16, 2020.
Self-funded accounts are those in which the insured uses the BCBS provider network, but the group policy holder, such as an employer or organization, pays the claims.
Dependents, beneficiaries, and non-employees are not eligible Class Members.
Blue Cross Blue Shield insures more than 106 million people, or 1 in 3 Americans, according to the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. The insurer partners with more than 90 percent of doctors and hospitals across the United States.
A class action lawsuit had accused the company of working with others in an attempt to limit market competition throughout the country.
Blue Cross and the other settling defendants deny all allegations of wrongdoing. However, both sides have agreed to the settlement in order to avoid the risk and expense involved with ongoing litigation.
Filing a BCBS Claim Form
The BCBS class action settlement includes an Injunctive Relief Class and a Damages Class. Only members of the Damages Class are required to file a claim form.
Class Members who submit a valid Blue Cross Blue Shield settlement claim will receive a cash payment from the $1.9 billion remaining in the settlement fund after attorneys’ fees and other expenses are paid.
Individual Class Members’ payments will depend on several factors, such as the number of claims filed, the premiums the Class Member paid, and whether the insurance was fully insured or self-funded.
If a total payment comes to $5 or less, that Class Member will not receive a payment.
More information on the settlement distribution plan is available on the BCBS class action settlement website.
In addition to the monetary relief, the Blue Cross Blue Shield settlement also includes injunctive relief.
This relief consists of several actions on the part of the defendants, including implementing changes in the way they do business to increase health insurance competition opportunities in the market.
A monitoring committee will be established for five years. This committee will mediate disputes resulting from the injunctive relief.
A fairness hearing in the Blue Cross Blue Shield settlement is scheduled for Oct. 20, 2021.
The deadline to opt out of or object to the BCBS settlement is July 28, 2021.
The deadline to submit a BCBS claim form is Nov. 5, 2021.

“Then I guess I wont quit my day job!”
This is so ridiculous! Just give us the money all ready!
George, just go away please.
I CHECK CLAIM STATUS IT STILL SAYS UNDER REVIEW
Mine said that for the longest and now says it’s past the deadline to file I don’t get it
I just checked mines today and I have the same message, so I sent the claims admin an email. It was under review for months and now nothing comes up, so hopefully that means we’ll get a check soon.
Can someone explain to me what the heck is happening?!?!? The BCBS settlement website now states that –
The Court granted final approval to the Settlement on August 9, 2022. However, some Settlement Class Members who objected to the Settlement have now appealed the Court’s decision to approve the Settlement!???
So the final approval is not final?
I’d appreciate it if someone can explain what is going on?
Ty
You honestly expected to see money out of this? Really? You do know typically less than 12% of money awarded in class actions goes to the class members.

Anyone know how many claims were submitted and or approved in total?
Here we are at 8 months past the final hearing. Nobody saw a cent. I told you to expect this.
It said it was approved by the court August 9 we should get a check
Well, it’s the 16th now and still nothing.
Where did you read about the 9th?
