The Road Runner Membership program offers a number of benefits, but some customers say that it is far more hassle than it’s worth, particularly when it comes to unexpected charges and difficulty canceling.
Consumers who signed up for the VIP Road Runner Membership plan may not have known that they would automatically be charged annual renewal fees. Some consumers are reporting being unaware that their account would be charged an automatic annual fee rather than being given the option to renew.
In an online message board for runners, one customer wrote that Road Runner “renewed my VIP membership without first notifying me that it was due. They are supposed to email me. I also checked my spam folder and it wasn’t there.” On top of not being notified of the renewal, the customer wrote that they “cancelled the membership & I have emailed them 5 times and have not gotten a response.”
Certain federal and state laws protect consumers from automatic renewal charges, including the Federal Trade Commission’s Restore Online Shoppers’ Confidence Act.
Can I Opt Out of the Road Runner Membership Program?
Companies are supposed to allow consumers to opt out of membership programs, but some consumers say that they were unknowingly signed up for these programs when they made a purchase. One person posted in an online forum that two years after purchasing a pair of running shoes, they found a charge of $44.99 from a “RRS*VIPCLUB-ROADRUNNER 855-860-0211. After calling Road Runner and telling them that they had never signed up for a VIP membership, the company gave them a full refund.
I Was Charged Even After Canceling My Membership—What Now?
Some consumers have claimed that even after canceling their VIP membership with Road Runner, they have had problems getting the company to stop charging their account. One customer said that after canceling their membership, Road Runner still charged a 2019 annual membership fee of $39.99. “When I called the first time I was assured it would be credited back to my Paypal account,” the customer wrote, but when the credit never appeared, they called back and were told once again that they would see the credit in a few days. After calling a third time, the company allegedly told the customer that the account had already been credited, but the customer has no evidence of the money being refunded.
Can I File a Road Runner Lawsuit?
If you have been signed up for a Road Runner membership, knowingly or unknowingly, and have been hit with these kinds of fees, you may be able to file a class action lawsuit and pursue compensation. Litigation can help you recover the compensation you’re owed, as well as hold companies accountable for their actions.
Filing a lawsuit can be a daunting prospect, so Top Class Actions has laid the groundwork by connecting you with an experienced attorney. Consulting an attorney can help you determine if you have a claim, navigate the complexities of litigation, and maximize your potential compensation.

Too bad this isn’t that super slow, corrupt ROAD RUNNER email service. Spectrum took it over but RR is still used for emails and such and it’s awful, crashes all the time.
