Ford Motor Co. initiated a recall affecting approximately 1.9 million of its 2011-2019 Explorer vehicles due to a retention clip defect that can lead to windshield trim falling off the vehicle.
The attachment clips for the trim are loose, missing or were improperly attached during assembly or repair, according to the recall notice.
Owners of the affected vehicles may notice visual gaps around a loose A-pillar trim or an audible rattle and excessive wind noise coming from the A-pillar area, the recall notice states. Vehicles manufactured between May 17, 2010, and March 3, 2019, include the affected trim clips.
Ford has not reported any injuries related to this recall. The company will notify affected vehicle owners March 13-25, according to the recall notice. Ford or Lincoln dealers will offer free inspection and replacement of the A-pillar exterior trim and reimburse out-of-pocket costs for repairs.
