Subaru Ascent recall overview: 

  • Who: Subaru has issued a recall for certain model year 2019-2022 Subaru Ascent vehicles. 
  • Why: The company initiated the recall over concerns the Subaru Ascent vehicles could pose a fire risk due to an issue with the fastening of their Positive Temperature Coefficient ground terminals. 
  • Where: Nationwide. 

Subaru has announced it is recalling certain model year 2019-2022 Subaru Ascent vehicles over concerns they may present a fire risk. 

Subaru initiated the recall after the company discovered the vehicles’ Positive Temperature Coefficient ground terminals may have been improperly fastened during the vehicles’ production, according to the Subaru recall

Subaru is encouraging owners of the recalled Subaru Ascent vehicles to contact an authorized Subaru retailer once they receive notice of the recall in order to receive a free inspection and repair. 

Before a repair and inspection, Subaru advises vehicle owners to avoid parking the recalled vehicles away from garages, carports and other structures and to avoid leaving them unattended while running. 

Vehicle owners should turn off vehicles if they see or smell smoke, Subaru recall says

In the event vehicle owners smell or see smoke coming from the dashboard or footwell area, they should “immediately stop operating the vehicle” and turn the ignition switch to the off position, according to the Subaru recall. 

Subaru said it will contact potentially affected Subaru Ascent vehicle owners within 60 days. Vehicle owners can also find out if they are affected by the recall by entering their vehicles’ 17-digit vehicle identification number online

In September, Subaru agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims the automaker sold certain vehicles’ that drained batteries faster than drivers expected
